I found a PK Silver Ace in 9/10, a Wilson Graphite Matrix, the blue and gray, in 8.5/10, a Dunlop Black Max in 9/10, and a Fairway leather grip wrapped in a plastic bag. All for $12!!!! How much is all this worth??? Or is it just junk?

You should get $12(or more) just for the Fairway. Good find!

Hey pardner...you aren't in Austin by chance? :)

It's starting to sound like Antiques Roadshow around here.

Those frames are likely worth about $20 each, the grip possibly more than that (depending on length and condition).

Nah not in Austin. I just wanted the grip and the Matrix but at $4 each I decided, why not. They're all cool looking frames.

Does this look like a crack on the black max? It all zigzagy on the shaft? Doesn't really matter, just wondering.

"How long have you had it madam ?"
"Ooh about 30 years, don't know it's always been sitting in the attic"
"Well I'd say, given the condition and the pedigree of the racket, I'd estimate it to be worth FIFTY...MILLION...POUNDS..."
"Oh my goodness, is it really worth that much?"

Unless somebody ran over it, I wouldn't expect failure in that part of the frame. If it feels smooth, it's probably just cosmetic. The number of holes in the Black Max might be of interest to some...there were 3 or 3 different hole patterns in that racket. All things equal, I think the Silver Ace is the best racket of the bunch, then the Max, then Matrix. The Matrix really wasn't much of a racket in its day...seems to foster some fondness with others on the T-W boards, however.

Maybe you should contact the guy with the $700 Steffi Pro Staff on the bay!!! Yours might be worth thousands!!! :)

Yeah it looks like cosmetic damage. I couldn't for the life of me figure out ,if it was a crack, how it got there.

This guy, (Plasma) has some good staff on the bay. Take a look at his other items. Plus he is very knowledgeable about rackets if you contact him about pretty much any racket you could get some good information from him.

Back to this post, These are great rackets to mess around with, fairways are always good too, but it looks like this fairway was on a racket before. If it isn't dry then it should still be good.

Yeah it does seem like it was on a racket before. Its pretty dry but is there anyway I could still use it on a racket?

tennis005,
Are you planning to play with any of the racquets that you have been acquiring from thrift stores? It appears the thrift stores in your area stock with nice old-school racquets. These frame are worth about $25 each.

Yea. Platz appears to be liquidating or unloading most of his collection. I wonder if he's quitting tennis or in need of cash. It's also plausible that he does not want to be a hogger of classics.

Looks like he was having a 'lively' discussion with someone questioning his 'offerings'. I'd question a $700 Graf Pro Staff myself--but the owner is certainly within his rights to post his price. It wasn't THAT many years ago that we couldn't give away one of those ultra light sticks...I'd dare say there might be one left in the 'make an offer' bin in the back room right now(I'm 1000 miles away or I would check). Again, the owner is certainly free to pick a price on any item for sale.

Yup, will play with them when I get a chance. Usually, I like to try the rackets I pick up. Unfortunately, I always end up having to sell some of them to fund my racket collecting. It's not a too expensive hobby though and I love trying new rackets.

I am not sure how price is established. I guess if one does not like the price, he/she will not buy or make an offer. He also have a Wilson Sting Standard listed with a questionable price tag of $235. It's possible this was one of those special or limited editions.

Anyone know if I can still use the Fairway grip? It is sort of dry and looks previously used.

Yup, maybe next time I'll come across a few SV PS's. For some reason, the thrift stores here always seem to have good classic rackets. I also found a Prince Graphite Pro 90 in 9.5/10 for $5.

May be a lot of old timers in Texas are quitting tennis or buying new modern racquets? :)
