I've decided it's time to start taking some private lessons, my game could really benefit from some individual instruction. I tried uspta.com and found a few people to call based on their zipcode (With gas prices like they are, I don't want to drive too far out of the way)

Are there other sites that I can use in addition to uspta.com? I thought there was at least one more but can't remember the name!

Thanks!

No guarantee who is good. Word-of-mouth is a good way to go but sometimes the style of the person recommended may not be a fit.

I would gather some names and stop in and watch a lesson and evaluate from there.

A lot of players think the coach needs to be some superstar player and coached at professional levels to be considered "worthy". A good coach needs to have a good grasp of the fundamentals and in their own way communicate and demonstrate how to do something.

Be realistic about your goals, your playing ability, and your desire to practice what is taught.

One way to reassure that the coach is consistent in his teaching approach, is to surf around various instructional sites such as www.tennisplayer.net and www.procomparetennis.net to read articles and to view video clips/hitting sequencings of the Pro players. These and other sites will give you ideas about grips, stances, swings, technique, tactics, physical, and mental conditioning. If the coach is teaching jupitor and you belong to planet earth, you are in trouble. The coach's teaching philosophy should be consistent with current playing landsscape!

I agree with BB that some of the very best players turned out to be lousy coaches!
