Does anybody know the specs on Martina Navratilova's Yonex R-22?
I have the opportunity to get my hands on one and I just want some info.
I quite curious as to the flex of this racquet but that is probably hard to find.

Look at Dino's log. The flex is quite low.

Sorry, haven't got myself an R-22 yet, so I can't provide the specs...

Yeah, I believe 18.5mm - absolutely perfect specs! It's really a shame they "can't" make these quality racquets anymore.

Bought one of these for my girlfriend at the time... it is a soft easy to hit with frame. The males on my tennis team at the time were using the R27, a much stiffer frame but had a tendency to break at the shoulder like the Rossignol F200. Though I did not use them, many of these frames were broken by my teammates.

I was a YY rep during '84-'85 when we sold the HECK out of the R-22. Unfortunately, YY broke one of CoachRick's basic rules of racket construction--A)NO corners and 2)NO moving parts should be part of a players' racket(only 'A' applied to the R-22). We replaced a HUGE number of cracked R-22s before they slightly rounded the corners at the top of the hoop.

I personally preferred the 27 over the 22 and the R-10 over the R-7 because of the added stiffness.(Had one of my best personal wins using the R-10 demo the first time out--strung with VS 16...very nice!).

YY gave away a logo towel during the Martina 'special' back then. Best promo towel in the history of tennis! Mine is finally biting the dust after 25 years :( . Ah, the good old days!

I thought the 22 has fiberglass in it as well as graphite.

Isn't it:

R-7 = graphite + fiberglass
R-10 = graphite

R-22 = graphite + fiberglass
R-27 = graphite + boron

?

I wonder why Martina didn't use the R-10...

i just picked up a r-22 in excellent condition. other then a scrape on one square edge at the head of the racquet, it's nearly perfect. it was unstrung so i strung it up w/ a full bed of Head FXP multi 16g. mains were strung at 56 lbs and since the crosses are so much shorter than the mains, i strung them at 52 lbs. man, this racquet hits beautifully!!! it's soft & easy on my shoulder which i've hurt in the past. the string pattern is tighter so it takes more purposeful effort to get heavy topspin. but slices are just wicked and flat shots just catapult off the string bed like little bullets off both wings. the sweet spot is pretty big. the power level is on the low side, but the control is awesome. it's so easy to place the ball where ever you want. almost telepathic control. the flex level seems to be in the ballpark of the PK Copper Ace. after hitting w/ it for 2 sessions, it's quickly become one of my favorites. it will now be part of my normal rotation joining the rossignol f-200, pk black ace 98, and POG mid 4 striper. what a find! i'm so happy w/ this stick. :)
