That is so extreme for a one hander! I wonder what would be the outcome if Federer knew how to hit this one consistently when dealing with Nadal's high bouncing Forehand. Justine doesn't seem to be bothered on her one hander with high bounces but then again she does not face the likes of Nadal. Geez it almost looks like shes hitting a continental forehand on the wrong side of her body.

She doesn't face anything close to the top spin Federer does. I doubt her forehand would be any better against Nadal than Federer's is.

Holy crap. Well no wonder she does so well on clay even with all the spin. Might also explain why she has yet to capture Wimbledon. Now obviously this wouldn't be the main reason for either, but certainly one would think that it would be a contributing factor.

Mind = Blown

edit: The racquet must have twisted in her hand. I refuse to believe she hits her backhands with a grip like that. No way.

^^^its probably the angle of the photo, maybe her body was tilted slightly while hitting it

I think you are right about the racket twisting. Look at where her knuckle is. That is just an impossible grip for a one hander.

That appears to be her regular BH grip (basically a SW FH grip).

I believe it's called a western BH (one bevel beyond eastern BH).

Even in this photo, it is a western at most.

it looks like she used the same grip for bh as for her fh except she flips the racquet over, this can be done well you just have to make contact early, I used to do that but it's weird and impractical unless you're wailing on the ball

That's semi western backhand grip. If it was even a western backhand grip, it would break off your wrist. Hawaiian is even more contorted.

Just checked your vid Drakulie. It is interesting that on her forehand the racket face is practically open at contact. Probably due to her height.

Federer needs to start working on his backhand. Starting with this video. He better start now becuase that thing he throws out there now needs big time adjustments.
BTW, Great video!
The semi western backhand leaning on the western side for a one hander is needed against the topspin.

It is also called the extreme eastern backhand grip.

That's true. Her backhand doesn't look fluid and natural, unlike Federer's.

that first picture must be twisting after contact along with her follow through that gives off that insane looking BH

I agree her backhand looks umcofortable/awkward, but this only refers to the finishing position. Leading up to, and thru contact, her backhand is sweet.

One picture and we are to assume that's her normal backhand grip? Just look at the other pictures posted on this thread. Those look more like her normal backhand grip.

It's the same grip... akin to a SW FH grip.

As I said 1000 times I posted the picture that looks impossible just for fun. I never said that's her backhand grip. Everyone has known for 10 years already what her grip is.

That's definitely after the ball has left the strings and the racket was maybe pushed into that position by an off center hit.

i have to disagree, just watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCQ50D2fIKI) video of federer's slow motion bh

...and for the future of the game check out grigor dimitrov's slow mo bh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox97-DQdm00&feature=related

This pic of a shank that shifted the grip in Henin's hand will be worse for tennis than people emulating Andy Roddicks playing style.

I have seen a Roddick emulator. He had the hat, XL Lacoste shirt, racket, and serve motion too. However, his serve was like 40 mph lol.

I think you are correct. I seem to remember that Boris Becker would roll his wrist over the ball on backhands where he wanted to impart more topspin. It sort of looked like the Henin picture but instead of the grip being so extreme, he would roll his wrist over at contact. His follow through was similar to his flat backhand. The reason I remember this is because Becker, Lendl and Edberg were the first players I watched where I was focused on the technical aspects of their strokes. Does anybody remember this?
