View Full Version : Fed said possibly his illness and not having played since AO led to early losses

Ledigs

Does he not realize the same can be said for Nadal?

Nadal had not played since the AO and also had an injury to recover from. Using Fed's logic, anyone coming back from illness or injury or long time off will lose early.

This may be true.

The only people this is interesting to are those that are constantly searching for something, anything, negative to say about Federer.

So someone asks him why he lost early in a couple of tournaments. He says, 'I don't know. Maybe it was this. Maybe it was that.'

Wow what a revelation.

Who cares.

At least Roger's last singles title was this year in January. Is Rafa still recuperating from an "injury" after he won Barcelona LAST year?

Fed is doing ok. The guy got a freakin lung infection in an African 3rd world cess pool. Mingling with children who carry the most disease. And the "fans" are comparing it with a certain players Cronic excuses that seem to appear after each and every loss. Never wins. LOL. I did not see many Fed fans going loco after Nadal got thrashed by Roddick. But it makes me consider trolling big time when I listen 2 Nadal "fans" open their big wide open yapping holes with vitriolic splendor.

And it is a Nadal "fan" that is making it into something much more of an issue than it really is. Typical "fans" behavior.

Nadal DID NOT use any abdomen excuse when Del Potro destroyed him. He was asked by a reporter and then he refused to blame any abdomen injury and said the reason del potro beat him was because "he played much better" then him. Is Fed talking about his "lung infection?"

I haven't seen the interview, but it seems to be a pattern. Throw it out there before the tournaments begin, then keep quiet about it while losing, and then put it out there again at just the correct time after the tournaments so it is fresh in people's minds and yet doesn't appear to be an excuse and take credit away from the winners.

Here's what he actually said:

Q. Obviously backhand was off tonight. A lot of errors. Unusual for you. What was the problem out there? He was playing well, obviously.
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, it was a tough match. Look, it's no secret I've struggled the last, what is it, five matches I've played here in the States. It's disappointing, I think, my performance overall, if I've got to analyze right now after the match.
But I fought as much as I could under the understood circumstances with my game having issues at the moment. Definitely lack timing. I don't know where that comes from because I played so nicely in Australia. So it's disappointing to not be able to back it up.
Maybe the sickness did take it out of me more than I thought. Maybe the break was quite long. I'm kind of used to those things, and I still, you know, think I could have done much better.
I was a couple points away this week and then also in Indian Wells had my chances. It's disappointing having had a chance to move on. Maybe I had a chance to sort of turn around my game.
But, you know, we'll see how it goes forward.

Doesn't sound to me like he's making excuses, but I guess some people will grab at anything.

Also, this has nothing to do with Nadal! I mean, he's just trying to figure out why he played so badly in IW and Miami. The question was not "why are you playing so badly when Nadal is so amazing?"

And you are different than those other ppl coz you write here defending Nadal and blamimg federer. Why is there any need to defend.

And since you made the gender remark. Since Nadal has more fan girls atleast on this site. Are they after his looks or they ACTUALLY like his tennis.

Blaming Federer? Provide a post. Some of the logic on here raises questions. And people wouldn't have to defend if there wasn't an attack first.

It's gender appropriate for women to swoon over a good looking man. That makes sense all day long, but this man-love is seriously creepy, imo. I mean, I like Serena, but I can't imagine being that into another woman. Ever.

Well I do agree people here say a lot of crap. Both Fed and Nadal are awesome athletes. I wish people try to find more good than bad about players. Everyone has their mistakes. Are we any different ? No one is perfect and I wonder why people think their favourtite sportsperson is the perfect example.

They do, but then good posters like you seem to ignore them.

I don't think either one are perfect, they're human after all. But some people do and they spout it all day long on these boards. It gets a bit tiresome, that's all.

Nadal has made enough accomplishments that his fans don't like him just for his looks, although I don't think he's that good looking. He's got a nice body, though not one to drool over. I think most Nadal fans like him because of his work ethic and his exciting brand of tennis.

Although I am a Nadal fan, I also like Roger. Do you guys have to torture the man everytime he loses? He can make whatever excuse he wants to,he's earned that right. He's human,he's not going to win every tournament he plays in.

Can't we try to look for the good in our great tennis players instead of always finding a way to bash them.

"Rog, please, just please let me win one grand slam. Isn't your trophy room big enough? You know what all the trophies look like so why do you need more of them? Let me win Wimbledon. You said in your victory speech that maybe I will win it this year."

"Come on, Roger. You know I work hard to be a winner and I deserve to win more than just one slam. I am begging you, please! You don't even have to lose to me. Just pick the opponent you want to lose to."

"Alright, if you don't want to lose to someone else, at least let me play the doubles court lines while you play the singles. Work with me here, Roger. There is only so much that Larry Stefanki can do with me and my time is running out."

"ROGER, I SWEAR IF YOU RAISE ONE MORE TROPHY AT MY EXPENSE, I WILL RIP IT OUT OF YOUR ARMS AND PUT MY DEATH GRIP ON IT. THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL GET THE TROPHY TO YOUR TROPHY ROOM IS IF YOU BRING IT THERE WITH ME STILL ATTACHED." -Andy Roddick

That's only one reason, though I do admit I never root for anyone I find repulsive of face. But, I'll admit I like good looking players.

I also like his passion, his excitement, his originality, his humbleness, his warriorlike spirit, his never disparaging opponents, his smile, his going to other players to settle disputes instead of talking about them to the press, the way he wears bright colors, the way he hits the ball, the way he moves around the court, the way he always knew he was good and didn't need anyone to pump him up, the way he's close to his family, the way he plays in Mallorca, the way he parades his girl around, the way he's committed to Davis Cup, the way he seems like a kid, the way he's so respectful. Uh, that logic doesn't work. Nadal started getting his six starting at 18. He was a newbie, not a grown man when he started winning. So, he still had to play the tour and take his share of losses, just like Federer did before he started winning. Just to bring some logic back to the board.

I don't like it when players use excuses when they lose, however everybody is doing it nowadays. It almost seems it has become a part of a mental war. Federer and Nadal both use Excuses.
At least Federer's excuses seem te be more sincere, this because he obviously would not lose to these kind of players when he is in good shape. We only have to look at the slams to come to this conclusion.
In the months around the USopen Nadal was constantly complaining that he was injured, this was very annoying. And the fact that he never won this tournament and was not playing as bad as he suggested at least made it seem like he was faking it (or maybe crumbling under pressure). Like I said this is very annoying.
About the crying, again they all do it. Some on court other wait for the cab ride home.

Fair enough I guess. To each his own, I'm just not a big fan of Rafy because guys like him and Murray play too passive tennis (well actually, maybe a little less than Murray) and It's fun to see aggressive tennis that Fed brings to the court. Sure nowadays when Fed is off and he plays his regular aggressive game, he might spray shots and shank the ball but when he's on, it's truly a thing of beauty. I however did enjoy Rafa during last years US Open where he seized the initiative to be more agressive and end points early to prevent long rallies from ensuing.
