Sampras/Federer- What a prospect

Massu/Gonzales- Unorthadox yet effective

Roddick/Karlovic- I really think these two guys would be unbeatable providing Ivo made a few returns

and what about

Nadal/Moya- Father and Son like relationship. Certianly would do well on clay.

Sampras/Edberg? Two awesome S&Vers.

How about Andy and Joachim Johansson instead? Pete and Andre too.

Yeah agreed the above two would be awesome. JJ and A.Rod would be awesome on grass. Imagine the points won on first serve- 100%.

Karlovic and Roshus...

Federer and Safin, or Federer and Roddick, or Federer and Federer

A good singles player doesnt have to be a good doubles player

Yes, hence the point of this 'fantasy' thread. If Federer ever did play doubles with Safin or Roddick with J.J. they would most likely get their asses handed to them. All of the real doubles champs are already together (Bryan Bros, etc.)

Strange, how come ***, a word with two meanings, not be censored, and yet the word g-a-y is censored, when it too has two meanings?

Henman and Dent would be awsome

doubles is very much a mind game. so with that said some singles player may not think the right way to play doubles.

Edberg and Rafter or Edberg and Becker, I'd love to see that.

McEnroe / Sampras vs. Santoro / Gilbert you will need a healthy heart to watch it. :)

Although Henman and Dent are impressive at net, they would probably get their *** handed to them by some double specialists like Bryans or Woody/Bjorkman. The reason I say this is that most singles players find it difficult to adopt the correct strategy in doubles.

Federer/Nadal, for sure.

Moya is not a good doubles player. He and Nadal have not had good success as a pair before, on clay or otherwise.

im surprised that Nadal and Lopez do so good together..i dont see either of them as exceptional servers or volleyers. just great baseliners..but massu and gonzalez are good....
I;d love to see Rafter and Henman.....
Federer and Roddick
J Johansson and Ivo Karlovic

I dont think Fed and Nadal would opt for doubles, as there is too great a rivalry.

I like what you're thinking Misiti99. Andy and Roger would be a fantasy.

I admit the Spanish version of the "net game" is interesting, but Rafa has 3 doubles titles, and as mentioned before, he and Robredo were in the semis at the US Open. In fact, Rafa is pretty high in the doubles Champion's Race this year, with two different partners -- Costa and Lopez. I think he and Lopez will continue to play doubles together, to improve their games, especially as they move off clay.

And I'm sure my eyes are deceiving me, but did someone say that Rafa and Roger would never play doubles because of a rivalry???

In 1992, John McEnroe and Pete Sampras played doubles together for the US Davis Cup championship team. Both of their matches (in the semifinal against Edberg/Jarryd and in the final against Hlasek/Rosset) went 5 sets. I was lucky enough to actually see their match in the finals in person. With Mac being one of the best doubles players of all time and Pete being a great in the making (at the time), this team would seem to be a "dream". However, they had obvious personality differences and were not the flowing example of perfection that one would expect.

If I could match personalities together with serve and volley brilliance, I like the pairing of Stefan Edberg and Pat Rafter that someone mentioned earlier. I obviously don't know them, but they seemed to have similar personalities on the court and might complement each other well.

(Then again, Edberg didn't do bad with Anders Jarryd - a couple Grand Slams and a couple Masters wins, along with several smaller titles. If I remember correctly, Jarryd was like a lit firecracker on the court, so the similar personalities thing didn't fit. In that case, maybe Edberg and McEnroe would have been good?)

Federer/Hewitt vs. Roddick/Safin

McEnroe/Woodbridge (Woodbridge is mentally tough enough).

McEnroe/Gonzolas (the old man).
