View Full Version : The mystery of the Pro Kennex Black Ace 98 (86)

I have been reading through the threads on this legendary weapon and the consensus seems to be that it is an imprint error on the frame that puts the '86' upside down and hence '98' appears.

But on looking at the top of the bumper guard yesterday...it clearly shows a '98' again...surely they couldn't have screwed this up as well!?

What gives? There is no way that there is a 12" disparity when calculating the measurements of the frame from the outside in.

Did they mean 1998?

Did they mean 1998?

don't think so cuz the '98' (86 sq in) black ace was out in the early/mid 80s.

Maybe they were trying to imply it was a racquet of the future...1998?

They were right.

There is no way that there is a 12" disparity when calculating the measurements of the frame from the outside in.I don't know if this is really what ProKennex was doing, but 12 sq. in. is reasonable for the area of the front facing of a racquet's hoop. (I know the "measure from the outside" explanation is used sometimes around here to explain a 3-sq-in difference, but that isn't reasonable!)

I noticed that myself when I first obtained one years ago and it had me puzzled too...perhaps they thought since they messed up on the frame they may as well be consistent and apply it to the bumper as well...

i stopped wondering and just enjoy hitting w/ the stick whenever i take it out of the bag which is quite often these days...my rotation of sticks is narrowing considerably recently. i find myself swapping btwn the POG Tour MidPlus, the Black Ace & the Rossi F200. such different playing characteristics, but all so enjoyable in their own unique way!

I'm really in love with this stick!

And I don't see the honeymoon period ending any time soon.

It's neither 86 nor 98 sq inch. It's exactly same shape as Pro Staff 85.

It says 98 and only PK marketing department may remember what they came up with back in earlier 80s. Maybe they wanted to start a countdown 1987 market crash? 9-8-7-6-5-4 .. who knows.

I would stop guessing. Nobody knows what it is
