cracked plastic collar of Head Classic

Is it a concern if the plastic collar at the top of handle (or grip) is cracked? Is the collar just for the look?

I believe so, it also shortens the length of the grip

None of my Head racquets exhibit this problem. I have seen photos on the bay. A probable cause, I think, is age and extensive usage over time.
