Reading all these threads from the past I encountered posts by some people claiming there were "hidden" locations where Sampras added lead tape that made his racquet so much better than anything people can get from the shop. Well, I was confused here so I did some research.

Different sources gave me different info but it appears that Sampras' racquets were between 387-396g. They were evenly balanced and he used stock St. Vincent Pro Staffs.

I plugged in the specs of the Pro Staff 6.0 in the USRSA tool - 357g, 31.5cm balance and 327 swingweight. I added 39g at the 54cm point (3&9) and this is what I got:

New weight: 396g
New balance: 34.17cm
New swingweight: 402.5 kg*cm^2

So the new specs are pretty much like Sampras'. Therefore Sampras doesn't have lead in the handle

I'm not sure where the 'evenly balanced' thing got started. The only reliable spec I've seen is on Greg Raven's site: http://www.hdtennis.com/grs/pro_racquet_specs/sampras_wilson.html

Sampras only used a certain type of later St.Vincent PS85. It had a slightly thicker throat than other versions!

corners, those are strung specs right? Anyway, the 7-inch-point conspiracy type of thing seems unrealistic to me. Can't Greg Raven put it on an xray or something :D

How can you type "what's the confusion with Sampras' racquet" and then point out "different sources game me different info"? THAT'S the confusion!!
