Does a string with a shape hurt the consistency of flat shots? With the surface of the face being less uniform, I would think this would be the case. If this is not so, I won't hesitate to order up some Spin X next time.

Only when using seamless, fuzzless balls ;)

In my experience i think it does. I played with several textured strings and hated them as my game is mostly flat with some spin, but not that much. In addition i feel like i don't have that much controlled. Never buying one of those again unless it has really good reviews. But then again blackcode had good reviews but played dead and no control from the start.

If you use a lot of spin on groundies and serves it can help you out a lot. If you hit flat honestly you have no business using strings like spiky shark / Blue gear etc its doesn't just auto-give spin..

Absolutely no difference for me.

I think that there is a difference, but not as much as some would lead us to believe.

I'm a natural topspin player and I love textured string but when I do hit flat I don't have any problems, I have an 18x20 string pattern though so that would probably help.

I noticed a difference when volleying the most. If the rough strings add more spin (which they supposedly do), then they pick up the spin your opponent hits more too. That's going to make the ball come off your racket differently. I found volleys harder to control with Kirshbaum Spiky as opposed to Kirshbaum Honey. Of course, it had its positives too. I could get a little more kick and slice on the serve. But, I didn't like the way the rough stuff felt.

My racquets are 18x20, and I like to volley; so this is very helpful.
