Going to be a great match-up. Was able to watch the tennis at UCLA this weekend and the bruins look good!

who's favored next week? Can either of them stand a chance against UVA?

UCLA has the most talent of any team in college and UCLA tends to play better in the tournament.

Also, UVA isn't a given to even beat Duke in the round of 16 at Athens were the courts are super slow

UCLA has been a consistant loser to Stanford over the years especially in critical playoff or NCAA tournament situations. and Stanford loves slower hard courts. so this pretty much puts Stanford in the finals..

Stanford did take them down this season, but its going to be a dog-fight nonetheless. Previous post is right in that UCLA does have incredible talent. With the additions of their new recruits next year, they're arguably more power-packed than stanford.

Alex will be playing #3. that is the plan. but Thacher looked injured today. so we will have to see how he feels.

I think UCLA will beat Stanford at Georgia. Also, UCLA has a blog about their road to the championships at http://uclatennis.wordpress.com/ It's pretty neat.

I talked with a few coaches at the Big 10 championships and they said UCLA may be the most talented team in America. They just tend to not perform at their talent level. Should be a good match up.

Im pulling for the bruins... its going to be an absolute battle as both teams truly dislike eachother, but its looking like the talent will be too much to deny.. i spoke with brooklyn and he said theyve really been working on patching up the weak spots, particularly in their doubles.. should be a barn burner boys!

UCLA adds two freshman blue chip recruits to the roster, but graduates Haythem Abid, Matt Brooklyn, and Kallim Stewart. A reasonable prediction would be that UCLA will be almost as good next year as they are this year.

Stanford takes 1st set @ 2 in a tiebreak, UCLA takes 1st set @ 6 - and #4 is almost a done deal w/ UCLA @ 5-2 in 2nd.

Nos. 1 and 2 are turning out well for Stanford, but things look fairly bleak, but not impossible, as UCLA is up a set at 3 through 6. I have no particular interest in which team wins.

Doubles point is SO huge in college tennis.

Will they finish up on the indoor courts, or will they have to wait and play outdoors, since that's where the matches started?

I would think that they'll wait for some amount of time for the rain to move through, and if it looks like the rain is going to go on for a while, then they'll move inside.

Jakes On A Plane

They are going indoors. There is a huge band of t'storms over ATL and moving towards Athens. This rain won't be over before much before 6 I'd say.

They will use Hopkins to finish out the Stanford/UCLA match. After that, one of the 3pm matches will play at Hopkins while the other will move to the Norcross, Georgia to the Racquet Club of the South. The same will go for the 6pm matches.

*Both have live stats. Check the NCAA Tennis Championship main-page.

Even though Georgia is seeded lower in the tournament for the 6pm match, I'm guessing they will get to play at Hopkins and Texas/Oklahoma will have to move to Norcross.

socaltennnis

The rain delay gave Stanford a huge advantage since they are only playing on four courts.. The bottom 5 and 6 were shoe ins for UCLA and the match would have ended quickly 4-0 or 4-1 without Stanford being able to finish at 1 and possibly at 2. But now thatthey are letting 1 and 2 finish before 5 and 6, the score is going to be alot closer, but probably with UCLA pulling ahead.

Tennis_Crazed
05-21-2010, 02:06 PM
Yup Stanford has to thank the rain gods for this one...

maybe with the score tighter they can get back at 5/6...we'll see

He went to Stanford. This is a recurring pattern. The coaches and program are big on reputation, not so big on actual player development in recent years.

Only 4 indoor courts. These guys had to sit and wait for two other matches to finish. Lucky for Stanford, as UCLA was winning at 7-5, 3-1 and now stand at 7-5, 3-4.

Transitioning from outdoors to indoors is a big deal. For some players it's great, for others, not so much. Generally, I'd say the bigger you serve and hit, and the more aggressive you are, the more indoors will help.

True statement, in the sense that no team is ever a given to beat any other team in the final 16, because all the teams are good. Looks like you might be misjudging UVa a bit, though.

ClarkC

UCLA has been a consistant (sic) loser to Stanford over the years especially in critical playoff or NCAA tournament situations. and Stanford loves slower hard courts. so this pretty much puts Stanford in the finals..

Yes, that draw pretty much puts Stanford into the finals. They just have to beat USC in the semis, and Virginia in the quarters, and UCLA in the round of 16 ... oops.

socaltennnis
05-21-2010, 06:49 PM
On more serious note, I think Stanford will meet Virginia in the quarter finals. It was a blessing in disguise that Stanford was seeded #8 and not #7.

LOL,,, Stanford matches up great with UCLA, it will be a blowout. and who is the Pac-10 champion ??? Also i see Stanford beating Virginia as well. Once again the match-up favors Stanford..

anyway, UCLA has no chance,,,,i am 100 % sure about this. I know the guys at UCLA and the guys at Stanford and Match-up favors Stanford big time. Last time Stanford played UCLA, they were playing poorly and they still won.....so what do you expect ??????

Hopefully, duke can knock off UVA and give Stanford the clear path into the semis and beyond....

UCLA has been a consistant loser to Stanford over the years especially in critical playoff or NCAA tournament situations.

UCLA has not been a consistent loser to Stanford by any means/methods of measuring consistency, just fyi fed.
