Isn't Federer guaranteed to equal Sampras on 286 weeks, no matter what?

In order for Federer to hold on to the top ranking and tie Pete Sampras' all-time record of 286 weeks at No. 1, the Swiss native must at least reach the semi-finals even if Nadal wins the title.

From the link:

Here are the scenarios based on the points table below:
- Federer will remain No. 1 if he reaches the SFs but anything less and Nadal wins the title, then the Spaniard regains No. 1.
- Nadal must win the title and have Federer lose before the semi-finals to take over No. 1.
- Djokovic must win the title and have Federer lose before the quarter-finals

But what does Roger need to do to break the record? It only states equalling it by reaching the semis, and Rafa winning. :-?

Yes, wikipedia had Federer on 283 weeks as of May 17, 2010, when it should be 282 weeks as of that date.

He breaks the record if he holds the nr. 1 spot.

The record is called "Most number of weeks as Number1 in the world", so yeah.

Reaching the semi finals of the French Open will guarantee that Federer equals the all-time record. To break the record, he needs to make sure he's still ahead of Nadal after the results of Halle/Queens.
