Hey everyone, I was just wondering how many points of the year each surface takes up, so I ran the numbers according to the 2010 schedule. I separated them into Indoor/Outdoor hard, clay, and grass. Enjoy:

Total Number of Tournaments: 65

Total Points: 34,000

Outdoor Hard:
Number of Tournaments: 24
Percentage: 37%
Number of Points: 15,250
Percentage: 45%

Indoor Hard:
Number of Tournaments: 12
Percentage: 19%
Number of Points: 5,500
Percentage: 16%

Clay:
Number of Tournaments: 21
Percentage: 32%
Number of Points: 10,000
Percentage: 29%

Grass:
Number of Tournaments: 6
Percentage: 9%
Number of Points: 3,250
Percentage: 10%

Stinks that there are so few grass tournaments.

Theoretically, if someone had the physical/mental ability to play week in, week out on every surface and win every tournament they entered, they could have a max of 27,000 points. That's with the calendar year GS and YEC, all 9 MS, almost all of the 500's, and most of the 250's. If someone could actually do that, it would be awesome! 115-0 year! Or something like that . . . Someone mights be able to do that on the women's tour, given its extremely weak state right now.

Actually, 20,000(assuming no Davis Cup) is the max. You can only count 8 Masters, 4 500s, and 2 250s at best. Winning more tournaments doesn't give you any more points.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that. That's actually not that far off from what federer had from 06-07!

It would be nice M1000 in grass, previous to Wimbly.

Queens as a M1000 would be nice.. or ATP500 but not ATP250 with such a great players field

Indoor Carpet:
Number of Tournaments: 0
Percentage: 0%
Number of Points: 0
Percentage: 0%

They could at least have ONE tournament on carpet, but I think ATP chooses not to because it's too quick and they think that all surfaces should play like clay.

But yeah, a Grass M1000 would be great.

Yeah, having paris or shangai or paris on carpet like they used to, then making queens or halle a 1000 would make my year, some of the fast-court specialist could get up in the rankings.
