I remember hearing about that when watching a Federer documentary that they showed on the BBC during a rain delay at Wimbledon. Reto Schmidli still looked chuffed by his achievement :)

LOL at “After he’d lose a match, he’d sit under the umpire’s chair and cry for half an hour sometimes. The other players would already be in the clubhouse eating sandwiches, and he’d still be crying on the court.”

He should've done the same at the AO 09 final hehe.

What makes those statistics even more remarkable is that Federer has never retired from a match during his professional career.
By comparison, Andre Agassi (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/a/andre_agassi/index.html?inline=nyt-per) was bageled 25 times and retired from 11 matches, and Jimmy Connors (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/c/jimmy_connors/index.html?inline=nyt-per) was bageled 15 times while retiring on 14 occasions. Even big servers like Pete Sampras (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/s/pete_sampras/index.html?inline=nyt-per) and Boris Becker (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/b/boris_becker/index.html?inline=nyt-per) were shut out more frequently.

Look at the guy in the pic. Looks a lot older than 31/32.

What a low life this Schmidli, reminds me of those broads who came forward after Tiger's scandal.

aha!So Federer is a previous offender in tanking!!!

Fed's stats are impressive,I'm curious to see how many Nadal's bagels are-and I don't mean it at all to make it another Fed-Nad thread I'm just curious because Rafa is the one labelled the warrior.

what??
This was funny,I don't find anything lowlife about him. They're swiss afterall they don't make favors or free passes. If it is speed ticket for Fed ,he will get it no matter how famous and rich he is.

Federer tanked.
U mean he perfected tanking at 10 by achieving the elusive double bagel. What supreme talent.

I wonder how many years it took for Nadal to achieve being bageled. And i doubt he's achieved 2 in a best of 3, or ever will :-D

How can anyone consider Federer the Greatest of all time if there is a player out there that he has never beaten AND that he lost to 6-0, 6-0?

This tarnishes his GOAT status. I bet this is why Uncle Toni ranks them Laver then Federer.

Also, if I remember correctly, when Schmidli defeated Federer on that day, Schmidli pulled a track jacket out of his bag with a golden bagel sewn into its side.

At the post match press conference, Federer claimed that the chicken pox he had suffered at age 9 must have affected him more than he first realized.
