This seems to be a new thing he is doing.
My guess is that he is trying to limit the time he spends on court to preserve his knees.

Hell, if they gave me some good $, I'd consider wearing when I watch the FO.

You are missing the point. The watch weighs 20 grams or about 0.7 ounces. By comparison a plastic ladies Swatch is almost 3 ounces. So he isn't lugging around a piece of stainless steel or gold. As to the cost, duh, he is their spokesperson, he isn't paying for it, they are.
