the CMT awards! Yea! I am a BIG fan of country music. For years every year I watched the CMA awards in November on BBC but they seem to have axed that. Apparently I was the only one that stayed up to watch it here. Now all sorts of country music awards go on during the year and there is absolutely nowhere to watch it! I used to rely on these awards for new Country music since they cut the CMT channel here in the UK in 1999!! Spare a thought for those of us here in UK that love the way the folks down south tell their stories through songs gad dangit!!

Did anybody watch the CMA awards?
Any new songs that are worth mentioning?

LOL country music is awful.
It's the sound of the devil piercing into God's ears.

Chris Young is releasing a new single, not much new music overall though. John Mayer and Keith Urban did a cool performance together.

Babbette, Search for Country music and utube and follow the links. You'll definately find stuff you like if you search long enough.

for my own musical tastes I've found some great stuff just browsing, songs which were never released in the UK.

Are your parents brother and sister, perhaps? I believe that this is a common phenomenon among country music fans.

It appears to me that there are only a few topics addressed in country music. Either your dog died, your spouse left you or you are singing the praises of America.

Personally, I prefer music with more to say.

ok, most people who hate country music hate it because they think it's cool to hate it and lame to like it. i'm not an avid country music fan because i didn't grow up with it and am still not exposed to it all tha tmuch, but when i do listen to it, it's funny and cheesy and...fun. there.

I like all thypes of music, i'm not restricted..that would be boring. I love rock, rnb, jazz, instrumental, pop, country...I love it all. If it's good for his genre I love it.
People don't like country because they think of the old style country, the whole honkey tonks, and blue grass sounds. Country music has evolved since the 1990's and I prefer the newer sound of country.

@jms. thanks. I've never really heard of chris young might give him a listen. Keith urban and john mayer. I have to hear that.

@theagassi man. I haven't heard too much of paul simon or bob dylan.

Some of my "favorite" C&W tunes.

"If the phone don't ring, you know it's me". "My wife ran off with my best friend, and I sure miss him". "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy".

Bad country music is bad, as is bad music of any genre. There is plenty of good country music though. Is Patsy Cline and Neil Young considered to be country? How about Johny Cash? If you are talking about Billy Ray Cyrus aweful ***** then I agree, it is utter crap though. :)

All of the above are considered Country. Billy Ray too unfortunately.

But man that song was funny. "don't break my heart..my achy breaky heart.." lol. he gave country a bad name.

Does anyone like Garth Brooks- standing outside the fire? Comeon y'all? :p

Current "country" music is not true country music. Currently it's overproduced pop music, and not even good over produced pop music.

Old music is almost always better, including pop.

Yes. The exception being war protest music. It's always bad.

Couldn't agree more. I absolutely can't stand anything that comes outta Nashville anymore. Terrible. Luckily for me I live in one of the hotspots for Texas Country (or Red Dirt Country if you prefer). If you're interested in checking out some of the good stuff I'd recomend:

Aaron Watson, Bart Crow Band, Josh Abbott Band (one of the really hot bands here right now), No Justice, Reckless Kelly, Granger Smith, Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers, Eli Young Band, Casey Donahew Band, and if you wanna help some young guys out check out Jason Nutt & Highway 70. Jason is a friend of a friend and has a few good songs, but like I said, they're just getting started!

You can probably find most of them on Youtube and definitely find all of them on iTunes.

True. In any genre the old is always better. Music has been going downhill since the beginning of the noughties.
SFrazeur can you post some of your favorites?

Ooh thank you for the list samej07 will definitely check it out.

No problem babbette. If by any chance you like those and wanna hear more just let me know. I can get you a link to the local radio station here that has a free live online stream. Get a little glimps as to what goes on in a small college town in West Texas. lol

Finally listened to your suggestions and omg thank you. I love all of them. I listened to one song from each to start off and so far the ones that stand out are-no justice-don't walk away, Granger smith-I almost am, wade bowen-trouble, randy rogers-in my arms instead

Jason Nutt and highway 70 sounds good too. I listened to i'm gone, although I couldn't find a clear version. But I liked what I heard.

Yes please I wouldn't mind more names, and if I could have the link to your local radio station aswell that would be great. CMT.com radio no longer works abroad. :(
Thanks again. 8)
