Don't matter what kind of music... which era... genre... style, etc... I, myself, have a very wide range of music genres/guitarists that I love... just post up what you consider to be some fantastic guitar licks/riffs/solos/whatever...

To kick things off, here's our 'Keef' with an awesome opening lick... okay, I love some Stones output (from mid-'60's to Exile In Main St), while loathing others (awful later stuff)... and, yes, he has kind of drifted into ludicrous parody as of decades ago; however, he sure could/can play a bit of guitar and is imo massively influential...

More Keith from earlier ('64)... just wait for his Chuck Berry-inspired solo!... out of this world!.. you've got to love the sound they had then?!... and check out Brian Jones, at the forefront (unlike later years when he was somewhat marginalized), chugging the rythym out with his 'Teardrop' guitar.

I simply love what he's doing here from the brilliant 'Let it Bleed' album...

Post your selections up guys/gals.

Ok, one of the greatest guitar performances in human history occurred at a small club in the Netherlands in August 1988. At an aftershow concert, Prince played Just My Imagination by The Temptations. The guitar solo is legendary. This ain't your father's Temptations music.

If you are a guitar fan, take a listen to this song. It will blow your mind. If you don't care for Prince, skip the first two minutes to where the guitar solo starts.

It is all over you tube. Search Prince + Just My Imagination (Small Club).

All hail King Edward Van Halen (not the obliterated one, he's been drinking less and it shows in his playing)!

Hot For Teacher! It may be the greatest video of all time! And yes, that is Wayne Gretzky's wife as the teacher in the video.......

My apologies - these samples are more than just mere guitar licks but I felt compelled to post some of the late, great Michael (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hedges) Hedges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hedges) (wrongly labeled as a New Age artist). Here is a piece for an obscure instrument, the harp guitar:

Here is Hedge's rendition of All Along the Watchtower on a 6-string acoustic:

Wilco -- At Least That's What You Said.

song is basically one long guitar explosion after the first minute or so. If you've heard this song once, you'll want to hear it again.

Lots of great artists/songs mentioned above that are also favorites of mine:

Jimmy Page - Stairway to Heaven - if you're a Jimmy Page fan, see the film "It Might Get Loud" with Page, The Edge and Jack White - very interesting and enjoyable, especially learning about Jimmy Page's early days

Prince - never one of my favorite performers, but I appreciate his talent (one of my husband's favorites) - he'll be paying live at Roskilde Festival in Denmark tomorrow night. I love his guitar solo here:

Joe Satriani - I've seen him live twice - what a perfectionist - might be the most technically proficient guitarist (although his style of music is not my favorite)

Mark Knopfler - My favorite guitarist of all time, and I finally had the opportunity to see him live a couple of weeks ago. Despite a pinched nerve in his back that caused him to stay seated, plus driving rain with gale force winds that required him to towel off his guitar every few minutes, his playing was flawless. Sultans of Swing from that performance:

Not exactly "licks," per se, but six minutes of guitar ecstasy.
