I wanna buy a sports/casual watch for my GF for her b-day, she's really easy going and loves to dress up casual, and she doesnt have a sport/casual watch to wear on those layin-back days. Im looking thru some on amazon, but help would be appreciated. Any recommendations for watches around $50-$125?
So far I like this one:

It really depends on her age. If she is still in college, the answer is "Yes". Personally, I like the one with a lot of diamonds on it. Tina

Thanks Tina, shes 25, so outta college ;)
She already has a couple of formal watches, but not a casual, sporty one, Ive seen that styles similar to this ones are hot right now, but dont really know about the brands, just browsing thru amazon. How about those ICE watches, any suggestions?

In that case, I prefer baby G:). If she doesn't like it, please save that for me.

All the best,

Hey JM, its all good here, how about over there? Thanks for the suggestion.... I was gonna ask about the brand but, from the file name I see its technomarine...., a bit higher than I wanted to spend. Yeah, I know it looks almost the same as the baby-G, but, you know the ladies care more about the brand than men do so.... I think youre gonna loose the argument no matter what! hehe. Ive never heard about the ICE-watches brand before, just wanna know if anyone has got any insight, since Im liking that one.

Are you heading up here anytime soon JM? Head to head is still 2-0 for me ;)

I have to wear a Timex with three alarms and a timer, to keep my life under control! But if I didn't... I like the sporty look of the Baby G watches. I also like Skagen watches, for something a little more dressy. They're not as sporty, and in fact they're a little bit delicate because they're so thin. But I love their mesh bands.

Interesting you should mention watches as birthday presents. It's my 21st on Saturday and my family wanted to get me a watch, so i've been looking around for awhile and there are so many options out there.

As it's something that will hopefully last me a lifetime and alot has been spent on it they obviously wanted me to choose it for myself. Maybe you might want to ask her to look with you? I know it won't be a surprise when you give it to her on her birthday, but a watch is something quite personal and people have different tastes.

Fena14, what did you pick? If I was spending "real money" I'd probably pick a TAG watch. I don't have one in mind, but I've seen many that I like over the years.

Happy 21st!

Okay, it took me about a minute to find one I love: TAGHeuer Mini Link Quartz (http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collection/women-collection/link/diamonds/index.lbl?w=WJF1416.BA0589)

I'd probably never spend the money on it, though, because I don't trust myself to take good enough care of it. I watch like that should last forever and I'd probably lose it within six months.

It was a tough choice! Spending alot on it I wanted something pretty solid that I wouldn't be afraid of breaking :) Also something timeless was a priority, as was making sure I didn't go for anything too small as i've got fairly big wrists, so it had to look right.

In the end I went for a U-Boat Flightdeck 50mm. I've always loved U-Boats and the design has been around since the 1940's so I know it will stand the test of time. There's also quite a bit of steel in the design so i've go no worries about it holding up.

I love your watch! Lately I have this thing about orange. Even though it really isn't a great color for me, I am just drawn to it.

I will never have a birthday THAT big, lol! Not with two kids yet to go to college. Although a few friends are arranging a group trip to Ireland next year that just happens to fall on my 40th birthday... I'm thinking that would be a great thing to give myself! For some reason I would feel less guilty about that than if I bought a nice watch.

Everything good down here with the normal political issues .... I am with you, I love my Casio watches, since I got my first G-Shock from my father it is basically what I have used. Cheap and indestructible. Now, my dream watch is this one:

I'm a huge watch fanatic and own several (my girlfriend says too many as you can only wear one at a time - she's far too practical sometimes!). I've just got my name on the waiting list for the new Tag Heuer Calibre 1887 Carrera which is out in November in the UK but I've also got my eye on an IWC Portugese Chronograph - which in my opinion is the most gorgeous watch on the market - although it doesn't have a glass caseback which means you can't see the movement, which is a shame!

For the OP - I would think the fashion house brand watches would be a good shout as they tend to use swatch movements so they're pretty reliable. Maybe D&G, Guess, Ice Fossil etc should have something in your price range. This DKNY is particularly nice for example.

A trip to Ireland should be good, if you like Guinness! :)Unfortunately, I don't! I am betraying my ancestors (Irish, Scots-Irish, English, Scottish AND German with a helping of Cherokee for good measure) by not enjoying beer at all. But if I do go, I will be sure to "practice" so I can at least not look like I'm going to gag if I have one!

hehe, I figured you werent a girl. Thanks Ash great help. So youre saying ICE watches should be reliable, well built then? I like that one abit more cause its sportier than the DKNY, which is what im looking for. Its a new brand for me, hadnt heard of it since I started browsing around for watches, they look cool I sorta want one for myself!

^^^ They're designed in Belgium and manufctured in China I believe, but they come with a 2 year guarentee if you buy from a registered dealer. I can't find any info about their movements but I would guess they'll be generic quartz movements for that price which will be fine.

I didnt :) I bought her the ICE watch, the Baby G was just the first one I saw on amazon and just got me started on what I was lookin for. I thought they were really cool and even want one for myself; on the process I also discovered the Technomarines, now thats a cool watch, but over my budget since I already had bought her somethin else and the sports watch was a bonus, maybe for Christmas.

I dunno why, but dont really like the Citizens........

Anyways, I guess Im becoming a watch fan now!

Welcome to the darkside Pableton!

Orig - nice looking watch. Not so common to see the Unitas movement in a wristwatch - normally used in pocket watches as it's pretty massive for a wrist watch movement Seems to be more popular of late though as the fashion for big watches grows I guess!

Yeah for sure they can only be in big watches as they are LARGE. Part of the big watch trend for sure though and a really nice movement for the price (I think they go wholesale for about $190 and to individuals for around $280). They use to put them in the IWC Portuguese and the Breitling Aeroliner (is that the right spelling) if I remember correctly.

I thought for the money it was a steal to be honest. That and it was sufficiently different from a large manufacturer offering (Bell and Ross I warrant in this case), unlike some of their other stuff. They (amongst others) have a great following on the poor mans watch forum online.
