View Full Version : Gosen OG Micro 16 or 17??

I cannot decide which string to use as my cross, the OG Micro 16 or 17. I am going to hybrid it with a co-poly such as volkl cyclone 17 or SPPP 17. Can anyone shed some light on the differences between the two?

Might as well go with the 17 because crosses probably won't break anyway, and durability is the only thing the 16 has over the 17.

It depends on the string pattern and preference.
I use 17 in 18x20's and 16 in 16x19's. The 500 Tour has a very open string pattern ... so going with very thin strings seems like overkill to me.
IMO very open string patterns + very thin strings don't go together well regardless of durability. It just feels like directional accuracy suffers and the racquet feels "less solid" to me with that combination.
Keep thin strings in dense pattern racquets, that's what they are designed for IMO.

i recently tried both with topspin cyber blue in the mains. I prefer the 16's because the 17 is so soft that I did not get as much depth on the ball although there was a little bit more spin.

Try Gosen's new Power Master strings. Identical to OG Micro in composition but have a rectangular cross-section. They are the equivalent to 23 gauge in thickness.
