Would like to try to use them to help my foot work, WHILE playing, or atleast on the ball machine

I've worn the attachable kind just for jogging. It's meant for straight-line running/jumping.
It builds up your calf muscles.
I'd hate to see anyone roll an ankle in those.

It wouldn't help your footwork while playing. These shoes are specifically designed to give your calf muscles an extra stretch and build the jump reflex. They are not designed to help people with "footwork."
They are worn for a short period of time doing specific drills, usually involving sprinting and jumping. I think they work, but you need to start slowly to avoid injury.

These are Jimmy's training shoes. Oh yeah! Jimmy couldn't jump at all before he got these. Jimmy was like you.
