Zvonereva?!?

During the (abysmal) Venus match Friday, ESPN2 showed a few points of the Zvonereva-Pierce match.

What is up with VZ? I know she's emotional on court, but she looked headed for a TOTAL breakdown.

Anyone know why this talented player is so emotionally fragile?

You said it yourself. You know she's emotional on court. Anyone who follows Zvonareva has seen this type of behavior many times before :(

The emotions she showed against Pierce are pretty standard for herself in play and even worse, she can go off her rocker in practice.... I was surprised her racquets stayed intact...

Why is she like this?? A combination of factors. She didn't always used to break down. She has always been fiery tempered (think smashing her racquets ala Marat Safin, throwing chairs....) but she is too perfectionist- doesn't let mistakes slide and doesn't move on, demands a lot from herself, is under great pressure from all the Russians below and above her, and she has had some pretty bad streaks of losing to players ranked well below her which has added to her emotional baggage....she doesn't accept that sometimes she will make bad shots- she gets caught up in it, and just the emotional way she is, it gets to her.
