View Full Version : Advice on Hybrid vs Full Bed Poly

Hi Guys, What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a hybrid set up vs a full bed poly strung at a lower tension? I recently tried a poly for the first time. RPM Blast 16G in my C10 as a full bed. I liked the spin and pop, and the fact it was reasonably soft; but I thought volleys were not as good as when i use a full multi set up (e.g X1 biphase). Does using a hybrid rectify that? I am thinking of trying solinco tour bite in the mains with a multi cross (my stringer said most people prefer RPM blast as a full bed which is why i will avoid that as a hybrid)

Define lower tension. I found that a hybrid strung at 40#s with synthetic gut is a little too hard to control. I found that same combo at 44 and 48 is a little easier, and I could adapt to it.

I am now going to try full polys between 35-48#s to dial in what I like.

So I guess my advice would be..if you are a spin hitter, try full poly at low tension. If you are less like Nadal and more like Soderling, you would want a hybrid in the 50s.
