View Full Version : A bit tired of this feature

When a new reply is posted into an old topic, it comes all the way back to the top to denote 'activity'. This make that outdated, uninteresting or simply finished topics stay alive. I say LET THEM DIE.
I Know, people will say: Don't read them. I may, but bothers me to have them still around.
Others would say that this belongs to some other board. That's true, but let me ask you, die hard tennis fan, is it true that you check this particular board ten times more often than the others discussions? That is my case and I am saying that the originallity and freshness is fading away.

I second that, let them stay where they are, and die like they should if theyre boring. Ive havent grow THAT lazy yet that I can just scroll down a couple of lines to check out a post I was interested in.

On the old board you could choose which way you liked it.
The sysops will get around to putting this choice in eventually, a couple of posters have complained about it. Be patient.

Can't you already chose in here how you want them displayed?
The Mercedes Benz forum that I frequent uses the same software. On especially interesting topics, sometimes there will be a post that just says "bump". This way, something important gets "bumped" up to the top.

Sorry, simi, but I would like to decide what's important TO ME, and not have someone else decide what is important TO ME.
And the most recent Threads at the top is most important to me. Ariel is totally right. I hope Max is right about TW remedying this problem, as well - as he mentioned, on the old board, we had a CHOICE of most recent threads at the top, or Threads with the most recent POST at the top. Choice is good, isn't it? Right now, it is impossible to tell which threads we've not seen before.
In general, it takes me significantly LONGER to get through this new board than it took me to get through the old board. This isn't because it's new and I'm not yet used to it - it's because the 'features' are designed for people who enjoy closely monitoring the boards for 8 hours at a time, and reading every single post in every single thread.
Quite annoying.

I think the reverse is true. If an old topic gets replies, it means it IS interesting to the group at large. It's not a question of "letting it die," if it's getting replies, it HAS life. If a new topic gets bumped down, it was because it wasn't interesting to the group as a whole to begin with, and IT should go away and die. It's like thread natural selection. The cream shall rise. If you really "check this board ten times more often," there will always be a healthy mix of the fresh topics PLUS the most successful of the old ones at the top waiting for you.
I suppose we can chalk it all up to difference of opinion, but I'd like to add my voice to that of support for the new board. I feel having the replied-to posts rise to the top is by far the most sensible thing. Choice is good, but if there has to be a default, I'm pleased about the state of the current one. I have yet to find a single thing about this software that isn't superior many times over to the old message board's.
Just didn't want TW to think the only voice out there was one of outrage. Many people prefer this way, but few voice opinions when things are as they prefer.

I think it's great the way it is and I hope it stays that way.

The old board let you do it either way, and it doesn't really matter what the default is... though yes, I like it this way better, I see Deuce's point here.
