I'ma toot my own horn for just a minute.

I'm still a little in shock myself.

I live in Atlanta, so everyone here plays lots of doubles. The Big Fish singles leagues have been around West GA for a few seasons, so I decided to play. I figured I would have some fun, maybe win a match or two, and hit LOTS and LOTS of shots juuuuuust outside the singles line in the doubles alley.

Started out kinda slow, won my first in a tough three-setter, lost 3 close ones, then (to my amazement) finished by winning my last two matches of the regular season. By virtue of the points system, I qualified for the playoff round (top 4 qualify)...

Got a little lucky in my first playoff match, my opponent (who is on my ALTA team) had a really off day, and I won that one 6-3, 6-0.

That left the finals, against one of the local HS #1 players whom I beat in the first round of the season.

As expected, it was close, back and forth. We played in the afternoon (short work day... ;) ), and I was off a little. I would play well in spurts, but lost the 1st set 3-6. I was able to turn it around in the 2nd set, and won it 6-2.

Final chapter. Struggling to find energy and focus, I went down an early break, and was serving at 1-3. Somehow, things started clicking, and I was able to rattle off 5 straight games and pulled out the victory 6-3 in the 3rd set.

I REALLY surprised myself this season, since I was finally able to brush off my singles stigma and put together a winning season. However, winning the league championship was totally unexpected.

Now, I get to move up to a higher division next season. Yippee...

Toot! TOOT!

Shout it loud, shout it proud. Way to come through, surprise yourself...and your opponents.

Good luck in the next division up!

Great job!

I'll be joining Big Fish next time they offer a singles season. By then I'll hopefully need to adjust my Tencap rating, but if you are moving up I'll probably still be in a lower division.

Nice, the only championship I ever won was in a consolation bracket.

Congrats! :) Just curious, what racket do you use and what is your biggest weapon?

It's definitely fun, and well worth it.

Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 95 strung w/ Gosen poly 17 mains and Gosen syn gut 17 crosses (my first few matches using poly, I kinda like it). I also like to use a Pro Staff 6.0 95 and Prince Speedport Black.

My biggest weapons are my forehand and my kick serve.

I actually came to net more than twice in yesterday's match, and won most of the points.:shock::shock:

Wow! No wonder you won! That is one monster racket to use! :) Best of luck for the rest of the season!
