kreative, I paid $695 for mine plus shipping, which was $36. I have the dual action clamps -- they work very well. The single-action clamps are more expensive. Some recent posts alluded to a price increase. It doesn't surprise me; the dollar lost ground against the euro since I bought my unit in November 2003.

Cantaloupe: I have a DG (my backup machine) and found that the clamps didn't slip as long as I cleaned them often. And that's stringing slippery stuff like Sensation Supreme.

FYI, the clamps on the Aria will fit in the bases of your DG clamps. I have the Aria and I can tell you that the clamps are a HUGE improvement over the DG clamps. Diamond dust coated and have a roller to allow the camming action to be very smooth. You might consider ordering a pair.

I have a hybrid machine. It started out as a Flex 940. I know I did not listen before I bought. But anyway the 6 point support system broke ( half of it anyway) so I replaced it with the ones on the Alpha Axis Pro. Like it so well I replaced the other side too. The clamps are Prince and the tension head is a Wise 2086. The only parts that are still Eagas are the base and the stand.

for tournament stringing what do y'all think is the best machine and best value. I've strung on the sensors and from the numourous times that hey've broken down i wouldnt trust my life with one. Star 3 and 4 on the otherhand i like very much.

personally i think the new Alpha Orbitor looks to be the best value for a professional stringing machine, especially after they put the new style mounting system on it, a clone of the babolat mounting systems.

Wow! Gaines, I was pretty impressed by your stringing machine collection until I saw the disclaimer - still very impressive though.

I'm using a Silent Partner Swing, I really enjoy stringing and learning more about it on this board. As long as my racquet volume doesn't increase I'd be happy to stay with this baby for the rest of my life. It's a joy using a drop weight machine.

Yeah, I've been looking at Lowes and Home Depot for some sort of cart, but none of them supplies anything I'm looking for. Any ideas where else I could try? Or how to make one?

Thanks

jj300
10-17-2005, 06:04 AM
Check out my pictures at photos.yahoo.com/gfinger32 to see the cart. I had access to a welder so I welded some 90 degree bent steel tubing at the top to creat a shelf and did the same with 1/2 bent steel to create the other shelf. legs were simple metal pipes. Go to a local junk yard or a welding shop. You don't need a lot of material so it is likely you can get one welded for you for cheap. One of my friends got one for $15 at a junk yard. Basic design is a rectangle base to hold the stringer and 4 leg supports, aka like the one I have. Good luck

I ordered it about an hour or 2 ago, so hopefully I'll have it within the next week or two. Well, as long as you keep playing the RDS 001 Mid, you've got my blessing
Do you use the RDS Mid too? Man that racquet is easy to string.....not to mention it plays pretty well. ;)

Yeah I bought one the day they came out and about a week later bought a few more. I agree, it's got to be one of the easiest racquets to string, ever. It seems like whenever I'm stringing someone else's racquet I think, "man this racquet sucks to string..."

I just replaced the grommets on one today and those "soft grommets" are like butter to take out and put in...it was E-Z.

Voltron

Nice, I think I'll have to replace the grommets on both of mine soon. Stringing once every three days apparently isn't good for grommets, I never would have guessed. :)

Sorry I did not see this earlier. Its the big mother. standup. You can get a great leg work out pushung the foot pedal up and down to tension teh strings.

I have had the wise over 2 years. I would buy one again. Spend the extra $50 and get the foot pedal. A couple of users had problems/didn't like the machine (do a search).

Most on this board seem happy with the decision to purchase the Wise Tension Head.

"I only string for myself.....oh and some pro players" :p

Well, Roddick said that "this is the best looking string job I have seen in these (charity) events" Upon hearing this in the players' lounge, Blake wanted his racket restrung. I think they used the rackets in their match, so I think they liked it. At least, Blake didn't look at his racket every time he missed this time around. ;-) He used to have insanely high tension like 80 lb on his racket, but this time it was more reasonable, though it was a different racket (Dunlop vs. no name racket) with more open string pattern.

BTW, both Star 5 and Sensor are beautiful machines, but Star 5 doesn't compare to Sensor in build-quality. If you are used to Sensor, Star 5 feels cheap. Star 5 is more portable but Sensor is still the king and is a lot more impressive looking.

MAX PLY
06-09-2009, 01:04 PM
It sounds like your spring may be weakening a bit or just got out of adjustment. Try removing the cover, lossen the cap screw (just below the locking lever) and rotate the tab affixed to the spring upward to increase pressure, downward to decrease (you should not adjust the tab more than 1/8 inch in either direction). See p. 22 of the Neos Manual (p. 11 in the Ektelon H manual).
