It would certainly help if you could post a bit of information as to what level you play !

Ok well Im 23, started training and playing seriously about 2 years ago, but have played off and on for about 5 years. I just joined the USTA so I will be self rating 3.5, due to lack of any organized match experience more than a lack of talent or technical knowledge, I've been in and around the SRJC tennis scene for the last year and half and have been absorbing as much as I can from their excellent program, I am dedicated and consider myself pretty knowledgeable.

Ok seriously, what does it take to get on a team?

I've tried going through the Norcal site and get no responses, I get no responses here, I cant even play tournaments w/out a rating, which I cant get till Im on a team.

Im starting to feel like I wasted my $40:mad:

Would it help if I self rated 4.0? I certainly play doubles at a 4.0 level, and have been beating 4.0's in singles lately but still have an overall losing record to 4.0's in singles.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

You picked the wrong time. It's the end of the year so there's only few tournaments available to play and combo season is winding down.

Here's the 2011 calendar, mixed league will be next and then adult after that: http://www.norcal.usta.com/Leagues-Pages/calendar/

All you need is a self-rating to play tournaments so self-rate at 4.0 and sign up for the upcoming NTRP tourney at Sonoma State:

http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=82600

Mingle with people at the tourney's and ask them about teams. I've met a lot of cool people at tourney's and joined some teams through that even though I was already on teams close to home.

Hope this helps...

Oops, just saw that the Sonoma State tourney is already past their entry deadline. Lots of tourney directors will still take late entries if you email them soon. The tourney doesn't start until next weekend so you might still have time.

Thank you I really appreciate the help, I had actually registered for that tournament but then read I needed a rating to play and it wont let me self rate online w/out a team number so I pulled out.

I think the Norcal website is very poorly designed or I am just an idiot, probably both:)

Thanks for the info.

Call the tournament director, most tennis tournaments are begging for players. Don't worry about the details, give it a shot, good luck.

Are you sure you can't self-rate without a team number? I know that isn't the case in my area, but I also know it varies from area to area.

But yes, calling and actually talking to a director is most definitely worth it, if nothing else they may be able to give you more contact names.

Here's the self-rate info...

There's a lot of info on their website so it's hard to find links sometimes.

Thanks for posting that, but they wont let me self-rate online w/out a team number.

I've been trying to get in touch w/ the area coordinator but it seems the contact info is out of date.

I think I have resigned myself to waiting for next season, thanks to those who tried to help:)

When you say "team number", do you mean a USTA number? If so, that's not a team number...

Theres a team at Finley Park. Nice guys. I played for them last year but was bumped. The new captain is Ratu Osborne. I dont have his email to contact but you can send me an email and I'll forward it to him when I see him.
