Came to the fact that I don't want to pay $15 dollars for a set of strings. So I want to try this variation but wonder which is more durable?
1) 17 Gauge Forten Sweet Syn Gut (main) x 16 Gauge NXT Multi (cross)
2) 17 Gauge Forten Sweet Syn Gut (cross) x 16 Gauge NXT Multi (main)

I thought the syn gut mains would be more durable.

I agree, multi tends to fray and snap faster, but we're talking about 10-15 min different (for me at least). I personally would go with syn gut mains and multi crosses, since I want the softer string bed that multi offers.

I recommend using Babolat N.Vy as a cross string. It is a soft and durable monofiliament that is nearly an equivalent of a multi. Its pocketing abilities are amazing! To get more durability and keep the bed soft, you can use Babolat RPM Blast (a poly) on the mains. This will keep your costs to around $10 a racquet.
