I ordered MSV Focus Hex 1.23 but my credit card was shutdown because someone apparently stole it. But, maybe that was a good thing because im having second thoughts on getting it. Should i get Tecnifibre Black Code 17, Pro Supex Blue Gear Ultra, or of course MSV Focus Hex? I'll post a poll too.

Bc, and blue gear ultra, but the bg may give you arm pains.

msv hex is a great string with some of the best spin i've experienced however it will not last long. tension dropped like a rock after 7 hours of play. however it is cheap. for a few bucks more you cannot go wrong with black code. bc is an excellent string, not harsh and holds tension better. you will not get as fantastic a spin as hex but you will still get great spin.

out of all those strings plus signum pro tornado, which has the best control? and even msv focus 1.23 has bad tension maitnence?

i have only played with black code extensively and msv focus extensively both at 17g. i liked everything about msv focus except for the significant drop in tension. black code has always been a solid performer for me. it only disappoints at net. it is not a good volley string in my opinion.

I don't know why people ask generalised questions like this. Nobody can tell you which strings you should get because you haven't said what you're trying to achieve. And just because one string gets alot of votes doesn't necessarily mean its the best, or the most suitable for your game.

What strings you should get depends on your racquet - particularly the weight, hoop size, stringing pattern - and what you're trying to acheive. For example, are you hitting it long and more control/less power? Do you want more spin? More longevity? Reasonable comfort? Value? Hex for example, is almost half the price of BlackCode. Is this definitely an equipment issue rather than technique issue?

Haven't played BG Ultra or Solinco Rev but of the remaning two polys, they couldn't be more different.

Hex 1.17 is great for spin, fairly powerful but dies very quickly particularly in a larger hoop / 16x19 setup. BC 1.18 is less good for spin but comparatively speaking, it lasts noticeably longer before going dead. Tornado is very mediocre. Very forgetable in all departments.

Really, you just need to set of each and try them out. It's not as if you're going to be making a decision that affects you for months and months because the playing life of polys can be measured in hours. Lots of information on the boards already about these strings.

Geez i was just wondering everyones opinion on these strings(preferably signum pro tornado) and i know different people like different strings but sometimes when a string is great for someone else it's good to you. But thanks for the info.

I probably came across as slightly abrupt without intending to, so apologies in that regard. I guess the point I was trying to make is that polys are such a personal preference and so much depends on what you're trying to achieve that you really have to try them to see what works for you. There are so many string fads and people overhyping strings that you should look for strings that consistently get good feedback from users over a long period of time and not get swayed by fanboyism. When I read feedback on strings on these boards, I look at who's posting the feedback as much as I do the actual comments.

It's alright but yeah that's very true and now im thinking black code and it sounds like it's better then tornado and less expensive. But i only use full bed polys so i don't know how it would perform in a full bed...

Honestly there's no other way but to try a bunch of strings at a fixed tension to find out what works best for you.

I have tried the bg, and have a reel of ultra coming soon this week. I will let you know how it compares to bg. Supposed to be an improvement over the harshness of bg, softer. Bc is better as a cross with vs team for volleys!

Untill i get a cheap natural gut i need to steer away from bg because every weekend i have a important league to play and we play singles and doubles so i need to be able to volley good. So i guess ill narrow it down to tornado, focus hex, or black code.

curious why Black Code didn't work for you in volleying.

because i've spent much of my tennis life playing natty gut and syn gut strings. the feel is night and day on volleys. it just isn't there with black code or any poly i have tried to date. this is expected though. whats bad is that i can hardly manage to volley at all with tightly strung poly. when i try putting the ball deep, i can't do it with any confidence as i have no clue what the ball will do.

TW.com just got Volkl CYCLONE back in stock. It is very similar to MSV Focus HEX in spin potential and control, but it a little more comfortable (and even a best value at $5. a set). If you are looking for the best playability per dollar on a a poly - that would be your best bet.

i can relate. the volleying aspect can vary quite a bit with different polys. with some i have to really go after the ball and others allow varied execution (if that's the correct terminology).

I am not sure what it was, but I got a full bed of black code.. I cannot stress how much I hated this string. But I am not so sure why, because everybody else loves it so much. I was super inconsistent, and had no noticeable advance in spin. I was coming back from not playing for quite a while, so it may have been my technique initially and then just bad thought about the string. I am really considering trying Blue Gear, and also trying Luxilon for my first time. Probably Blue Gear ultra, and Luxilon Big Banger ALU rough. If anyone has a good, solid multifilament that they would recommend for Lux BB ALU rough, I'd love to hear it.

Ha okay i won't try black code. I really want alot of spin anyways and i've heard it only gets "good" spin. But yeah i'll order cyclone and blue gear ultra once i get my credit card back (got hacked D:) ill order then compare them. Thanks everybody! I'm hoping one of these will be "my string" (fingers crossed).

None of these!

Signum Pro TORNADO or Volkl CYCLONE would be my picks.
