I've just switched to this racquet..trouble is the string setup I use is just way to powerful.

Pro Hurricane 18 mains
Forten sweet 17 crosses.

I have used that combo in my kblade 98 with great success but again, now, I have found it too easy to hit out. It takes all I have to put enough top on to keep the balls in with the dunlop.

Anyone have a combo that would be less powerful?

I'd like to keep using the pro hurricane if all possible, I really like it.

Is there a deader syn gut out there, or are they all about the same?
thanks.

You can always bump the tension :) Btw, what tension do you use?

Btw, I was using PH18 on mains and n.vy on crosses at 53lbs and I did not have any problems with overshooting? Do you swing fast or do you tend to block more?

Solino tour bite at 55 is a good combo

I tend to swing fast.. shots I like go on a straight line to the baseline and dip in the nic of time.
and yeah.. I string them alittle loose.. these at 54 lbs.
on my kblade it was 48.
what is n.yy?

I had a set of MSV focus 17g

I strung the mains with that.
question is..

I have this forten 17
Or
I can put on some Pro hurricane as the crosses.
I'm wondering what the effects will be.

With the forten syn gut, it will be alittle softer, more foregiving.
but..
what of the Pro Hurricane?

I think I'll try the syn gut as the crosses first.. if I don't like it. I c an cut it out and replace the crosses with PH.. If I don't like it.. screw it.

Sppp or iso speed control as cross.

I use a full bed of it. Pretty comfortable :)

A full bed of poly should give you the right power level

I would try a hybrid of Big Hitter Blue 16 (62) and Gosen OG 17 (60).. that will be about $4.50.. and should give you the right power set-up. The BHB 16 is a bit softer than some polys..and the OG 17 should give you some nice spin and control. String movement should be good.. Full poly might be a bit hard on the arm..

Good luck

I just got an AG 500 Tour (not the 4D). I strung it up with Pacific Tough Gut 16/Solinco Tour Revolution 18 at 61/57. I'm playing with it tomorrow morning. I'll write back after hitting with it. I have 2, but wanted to try this setup before stringing the 2nd one.

As with any change, you can change your stroke to a more modern pronated finish, or you can bump up tension to reduce power.
Since you're changing to add power, why increase tension to take away power. Why not learn a modern forehand or backhand? Believe me, Nadal and Federer swing much faster than us, and keep the ball IN with a modern followthru.

Steve,

I will be interested in hearing your insight and results on that set-up. I know players that have used that frame strung with Nat Gut and others with full poly @ high tensions. The frame has (suprising) good feel, is very stable did not cause me any arm problems. My best results with that frame came with a soft co-poly/syn gut hybrid set-up about 62/60.

Good Luck..

The racket felt good. Lower powered than I'm used to, but allowed me to really take some good cuts at the ball. Initially, the open pattern of this racket really grabbed the ball, and I sent a few long just because it leaves the racket with a higher trajectory, but after 10 minutes of hitting, I got used to it and played well. My serve was kicking up very well too. One of the guys I played against even asked me what I was putting on the ball today. The racket (or possibly the string setup) was stiffer than I was used to, but I didn't feel any soreness in my arm afterward. (I have been using a PK 10g PSE with Pacific Tough Gut 16/Pacific X Force 18 at 58/53). I strung this Dunlop with PacToughGut16/Solinco Tour Revolution 18 at 61/57.

Thanks for all the answers and I found the solution..
It works perfect.
I can rip my shots from baseline to baseline and they make it in.
flat shots with topspin that when it bounces the balls accelerate after the bounce.

same string job.. 10 lbs tighter
Babolat pro hurricane on the mains and forten sweet 17 on the x's.. I string them both at 57 lbs.

I added a light weight leather grip and about 5 grams to the head. Racquet comes out to about 11.7 oz with about 2.5 hd lt.

Perfect weight and blend of strings I think. I'm really liking it.

also did anyone that is using this racquet realize it is not really 27 inches? 26 and about 3/4 inches..

but thanks and I will keep this in mind for future references.

You could have lost the 1/4" during the stringing process. When you cut out the strings, measure the frames' length to see if the frame is 27" or still 26 3/4. I had two and both were 27" in the dot. I always check before and after I string. If the frame comes back to 27".. do a search here to investigate the issue.. or maybe Steve Huff can comment. He has been stringing a very good while and has seen it all.. :-)
