Post some pictures of your city, specially if it's not very well known outside your country. If you are from some universally known city (New York, Paris or something like that) post some pictures of places you think are interesting but overlooked.

Valencia, Spain:

The city center, I was born and went to school two streets away from these pictures:

http://images.travelpod.com/users/jakester21/1.1239017820.palm-trees-in-the-city-center-like-it.jpg

http://img.ahorrodiario.com/2009/04/valencia-centro.jpg

Ye olde city center; the two remaining city gates from the middle ages. In one of them you can see what the Napoleonic cannons did. Of course the city grew and the gates are no longer in the edges.

Some more:

Found the street I was born (well, I was born in a hospital, not right here on the asphalt I guess, but lived in this street after that):

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Cx2MA9hS4zE/TQLIVynhaXI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/LrSXG2H5ppw/s1600/calle_de_la_paz_2%5B1%5D.jpg

The blue dome and the bell tower behind those smaller buildings, belong to the school I went, a catholic school which was build in the XVIII century I think:

http://pueblosespana.es/uploads/photos/16107.jpg

A couple more from my early childhood's neighborhood, which is the old center:

http://perso.wanadoo.es/janthkm/valencia5/plazareina.JPG

http://locuraviajes.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/1761610.jpg

Everything was so old there, I loved it. My actual neighborhood is OK, but not that cool.

NASA is a great place to visit in Houston. Another attraction is the annual tennis tournament here. Since 1931, River Oaks Country Club has hosted the River Oaks International Tennis Tournament. That tournament is the oldest in the U.S. to still played in the original stadium on the original site.

Memorial Park in Houston, Texas is a great place to go for a run, play tennis, or have a picnic. The 3 mile lap around the Park on a soft track is a place you'll find hundreds of avid runners every morning of the week.

This is Valencia in 1925; I was googling some picture
and I lol'd at the sign which says "Alquiler de películas" ("Films to rent").
What the heck is that supposed to be?
I never thought that existed videoclubs in 1925! But apparently they did.

Thanks Dilettante. Valencia, Spain looks absolutely great! SoBad, New York is awesome. I refer to it as the "epitome of capitalism" and the architecture evidences that. Great thread. The 1925 picture is very interesting. It's fascinating to see big cities in past pictures. Even by 1925, the city looked very well developed.

Here's a great shopping spot in Houston, the Galleria on Westheimer. On the top floor is a very nice tennis club, with several indoor courts.

I live in a very small town in the middle of a large woodland area. There are some amazing walks and wildlife, it's also the place where Tolkien got his inspiration for the Hobbit when he was based here in the war.

Some more pictures; this is a small neighborhood in Valencia which has water instead of regular streets,
kind of a Little Venice. There are the houses, the sidewalk and right there, the water.

You've been here? Cool. Nice words, thank you! I think there are of course many prettier cities and towns in Spain, with more flavor and more cultural and which attract all the tourists, but I also think Valencia is very underrated. Or maybe the word is overlooked.

My wife and I visited Valencia in 2007. We hit Madrid; Cordoba; Sevilla; Valencia; a bunch of towns in Priorat; Tarragona and Barcelona.

Loved the old part of town; the beaches; paella; La Ciudad (I know it means city but you know what I mean). Good times.

Gotta love them, but you missed Toledo!

La Ciudad (I know it means city but you know what I mean).

Yes, La Ciudad is doing more to attract tourists than the rest of the city put all together. It's the kind of place where everyone wants to take a picture when visiting Valencia; it's beautiful and also very big. Talking about it:

Andreas, Dusseldorf looks very nice.
Yes, Düsseldorf has it's moments... but the whole city suffers since approx. 2005 from our former mayor's plans to make it superior to any other german city.
You can see the scars everywhere. They started diggin' holes for a subway, they built office-towers where we had parks and are re-modeling the whole downtown area.
The working is scheduled to be finished around 2015, which means, the people living here had to suffer through a whole decade.
I do know my town quite well, but nearly everyday feel surprised when there's another detour I have to take on my way to the job. Terrible traffic jams all day...

If you ever plan to visit my town, wait until 2016, better 2017. Drop me an note, I'll be glad to show you my hometown.

Valencia, Spain:

Absolutely loved Valencia when I visited it, even though I didn't have that much time for sightseeing. That's probably because I spent my first 18 years living in a city at the sea, just can't get it out of my system.
