Thoroughly enjoyed Kuzy-Franky
I'd say the same.

Although, i only saw from the 3rd set onwards, since the telly was showing the Fed match which ended at the end of Kuz-Fran 2nd set.

Jokers play against Fed and Murray at AO was great.

Federer played some flawless tennis in the second and 3rd set of the Davydenko .. wait this is for 2011 :( myy bad.

Djokovic vs Fed was a good match, but not as good as people here are making it sound. Simon vs Fed was a much better match IMO. I enjoyed Verdasco's comeback against Tipsarevic too, altough Tipsy totally lost the competitiveness at the very end.

No match has been that great so far, but I would say Dolgopolov vs Soderling or Isner vs Cilic

boredone3456

Dolgopolov v Soderling AO was good, but at the end of the year I don't know how many will actually remember it as anything much more then that unless Dolgopolov follows it up with more like it.

Nalbandian v Hewitt AO was a really good match, quality, emotion, it had pretty much everything.

Fed vs Novak was ok, but I really don't think it was as good as either of Hewitt/Nalby or Soderling/Dolgo...least in my opinion.

Kuznetsova v Schiavone, Well apart from it being the longest womens match in history I think they said, I don't know anything else about it to really comment. I only saw the last half an hour or so when really both of them looked near drop dead exhausted. But for sheer length it will be talked about for a long time.

There really aren't any other womens matches that even come close to mind at all...Maybe Sydney for Li Na's 0-5 rally? Someone mentioned the AO SF of Li and Woz...well I wouldn't say anything good about that, Li won but for the first half it was Li spraying the ball all over the place and it slowly shifted to Woz spraying the ball all over the place...not really high quality. The AO final for the ladies was ok, Li played pretty well for a while and forced Kim to change tactics to beat her, Kim just outplayed her. But even that wasn't that amazing a match.

.

Too bad you didnít see the entire 3rd set where the level of play just got better and better. Sure the final game was a little tight because this match was a war. They were both exhausted. But if you didnít watch the entire match you donít have context. It was definitely not only the longest match but one of the best ones as well. By far the best match of the australian open.

Men had some amazing 5 setters that were exciting but not because of the quality of tennis. Verdasco coming back against Tipsy was amazing to watch but it was horrid tennis. I would give more credit to Dolgopolov. He had a a real Cinderella story run at this AO. He would be my pick on the men's side.

Not sure if I can name a great match, only Nalby-Hewitt comes close. Simon-Fed was quite good as well.

The other candidates were either too one side or too up and down.

Anyway, pretty average year for tennis so far outside of Novak's streak.

Fed has been pretty meh struggling with age and motivation, Nadal had health issues at the beginning of the year and hasn't been teriffic game-wise on slow HC and clay so far, Andy Murray didn't win a set of tennis from AO to Monte Carlo, Soderling started good but then had health issues, Davydenko is just recovering from his and has spotty form, the top half of the top 10 is changing spots like crazy, delpo is starting to come back he isn't there yet and so on.

I kind of agree with this post. The bold part does make me smile though... He makes back to back finals in IW and Miami, pushing both to three sets. Loses only one set in both MC and Barcelona events combined...and he still isn't good game wise. Granted, we've seen better, however, i think you are a little hard on him too.

I loved the Fed Lopez match because both of their styles really compliment each other and it wasn't just a baseline affair, the best this year would probably have to be the Djoker Murray match but it would have been even better if Murray had won, that match deserved to end the streak, i hope the streak doesn't end in a bit of an anticlimactic match that would be terrible. For me:

1. Murray vs Djokovic Rome
2. Nadal vs Djokovic Miami
3. Fed vs Lopez Madrid
4. Nalby vs Hewitt AO
5. Fed vs Simon AO

I guess we get back to the problem of what defines a good match.

Rafa coming back to take the first 7-5 is arguably a better set than Federer winning the first set 6-2 on a drop shot
