I'm not following the AO too close this year but I just see the scores but I notice their has been a lot of retiring from matches. Or is it just me? Is their a reason or this? I assume the extreme hot weather in Melborne.

On the men's side, there's also been Karol Beck(vs. Murray 1st round), and Viktor Troicki today vs. Djokovic.

Aside from retiring, there's also Tipsarevic giving up after the 4th set and tanking the 5th, and Haase basically quitting after the 2nd set TB against Roddick.

Lots of injuries/conditioning issues this year.

Fish was a virtual retirement, he felt like crap, had shots, and basically gave out in his last match.

Tennis players are human beings that are pushing their bodies to the limit. Nothing new here.
