I hope she's not seriously injured but I'm glad she is out of the Open. She doesn't bring anything to the table.

Venus Williams withdrew in the second game of her third-round match against Andrea Petkovic at the Australian Open on Friday after appearing to aggravate a stomach injury.
The seven-time Grand Slam winner dropped serve in the opening game and Petkovic was ahead 30-0 when Williams stretched to the right to return service. She immediately cried out and clutched her stomach on the right side.
Williams injured a muscle between her stomach and groin Wednesday when she twisted for a volley in her second-round win over Sandra Zahlavova of the Czech Republic. Williams has never before withdrawn due to injury during a Grand Slam match.

A pulled stomach muscle is very painful.

She should have never came on the court if she was unable to compete.

This is another selfish move on her part.

I found it pretty amazing she was able to battle back from a set down after injury and beat her opponent 6-0 in the next set and win the decider.

After that effort, she deserved a chance to see if she was feeling well enough to compete. It's not like she's Djokovic, wilting once more under a hot sun. She has never retired from a slam, and the commentators said it had been nearly seven years since she retired in any tournament. It was probably a very difficult decision.

I'm disappointed she's out. I wanted to see a fourth-round match between Venus and Maria.

Interesting the large concentration of übershriekers in this quarter. Zah-whatever-pova outshrieked VW but lost, now after VW's demise Petković meets the mother of all shriekers, Sharapova.

I don't quite trust her versions of injuries. I think they are exaggerated to always keep an excuse ready at hand in case she loses/thinks she is going to lose.

having suffered from the same type of injury, I can tell you this..if in fact it is that injury, it will aggrivate her the rest of her playing days no matter what. This same injury has caused many pro athletes to retire from their sport. I am not kidding. The area that it is in is one that tennis players can't protect. Many pro athlestes have had surgery eventually to correct and that almost never works. I had a surgeon check me out when I "pulled" mine because I thought it might be a slight inquinal hernea.....after finding out that it was a slightly torn or pulled ab just above the goin area, I did a bunch of research and also talked with him. The older youget, the more stuff starts breaking down... She plays very aggressive with her strokes and her body out there....watch and see if this doesn't flare up over the rest of her career.
