Some examples "Richard" Berankis, "Alex" Dolgopolov, "Pete" Sampras.
Why are they doing this ? Are they ashamed of their names or something ? I just can't understand logic with this name changes:???:

I noticed dolgopolov doesn't like being called Alexandr, he prefers to be reffered to as simply Alex.

Ralph is absurd... Isn't Rafa better?

When I first saw Rafael Nadal being called "Ralph" on these boards, I thought why not keep the insanity going and cover the rest of the top ten:

2 Federer, Roger ---> Rolph
3 Djokovic, Novak ---> Norbert
4 Soderling, Robin ---> Robinho
5 Murray, Andy ---> Anton
6 Berdych, Tomas ---> Toto
7 Ferrer, David ---> Davva
8 Roddick, Andy ---> Andreas
9 Verdasco, Fernando ---> Ferdinand
10 Youzhny, Mikhail ---> Mickey Blue Eyes

So go ahead, you may use the new names free of charge. :wink:

The Limeys on the other hand seem to be less prone to do so (Britain is a class society so indulging in this kinda thing is perhaps considered "beneath one's class"

But the Britis are following the Yanks more and more. That Anthony guy is one example of that

Raj is good, and Raj-Raj even betterer for Federer, IMHO. I'm still going with Rolph, though.

Alex is a very common shortening of the name. It's definitely not a change of name.

This is a different case, kaka is much easier to pronounce than Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite . There isn't much difficult to say Petros than "Pete".

Maybe because it's easier to pronounce? I know it's easier to say Fran or Frannie Schiavone instead of Francesca. Is "Rafael" the Spanish pronunciation of Ralph?

migi

And is easier to pronounce Alex than Olexandr, especially for english commentators.
