I've never heard of them.

............oh wait, aren't they the guys that back up Justin Bieber? I think those guys are OK.

Vince Welnick from The Tubes was in that band for a while. I guess that's their claim to fame?

I (still) have an unused ticket from the mid 80's. I forget where exactly where the show was. somewhere less than 50 miles from San Jose Ca. I just decided not to go.
Wanted to see them New Years Eve 1981, but it was sold out. I saw The Tubes instead. Best show I ever saw. Never did make it to a Dead show.

A crap-load of crabs? :)

The running joke about one of my...err...uh hum...chemically-altered friends in college was that he once saw 5 Dead shows in 2 days. :) Actually, I think he saw a Dead show every day, whether he was physically at a show or not.

Not a big fan of the group but Touch of gray is a real fav for me, kind of sums me up and reminds me of living in California where it seemed to be on the radio all the time

My favorite Dead song is "Brokedown Palace". I actually put it in my will to be played at my funeral. "Goin' home, goin' home; by the waterside, I will rest my bones". I also really like the songs on 'Workingman's Dead', particularly "Cumberland Blues" and "Dire Wolf". And you gotta love "Ripple" and "Friend of the Devil". I'm also a big fan of the Garcia/Grisman stuff. My family loves the 'Not for Kids Only' album. I've put my kids to sleep singing "The Miller's Will" since they were born.

Big old fan of the Dead; saw them a couple of times in 86; wonderful concert in Minneapolis with Tom Petty and Dylan. I'd love to have had the time to walk that paisley-painted highway with them for a time. Still listen to them.

Came close to seeing the very last concert with Jerry, in Chicago.

I was one generation behind, never could of saw the Dead in concert. Had a chance to see Furthur though (Bob Weir/ Phil Lesh and others playing some Grateful Dead music) but I couldn't hitch a ride.

My Favorite songs are probably Terrapin Station, Box of Rain, Scarlet Begonias, and St. Stephen.

I guess there is still Phish, Widespread Panic and a few other bands still touring though.

Favorite show is a toss up between 8-7-82 and 7-6-84, both drom Alpine Valley. Favorite songs, Cassidy, Bird Song and Let it Grow and Help-Slip- Franflin's. For shows I'd have to add the 3-30-90 with Branford, it was a great one also.

"Touch of Grey" :
- a crappy men's hair-coloring commercial
- a great Dead song
- (and a good username, OP) ;-)

Also, "Eyes of the World" a noodly-jazzy tune from the not-so-popular 'Wake of the Flood' LP

Among my favorite songs are Scarlet Begonias, Ripple and all of Blues for Allah - especially Roll Away the Dew - but as the songs flow one into the other, all of them, Uncle John's etc.

Just for fun, who can name some of the Grateful Dead "spinoff bands"? I'm talking about other bands that Dead members either started or played with regularly, etc.

I'll get it started: New Rider's of the Purple Sage

Try not to just use Google.

Was a huge Deadhead in HS and college. Did a couple tours in college. Still love the music. Here are a couple favorite shows if you are looking for recommendations:

4/14/72
4/2/73
5/8/77 (I know everyone says this one, but who cares, it's still that good...)
7/8/78
12/1/79
6/16/82 (JGB)
9/2/83
7/13/84
7/7/89 (first show)
7/19/89
10/15/89
6/17/91

Be sure to get a copy of 6/16/82. Possibly Garcia's greatest performance ever, and a show where JGB opened for Bobby & the Midnites. How in the world do you possibly go on after THAT?
