View Full Version : Do you use a vibration dampener?

Just checking who uses vibration dampeners and what types they like.

I use one. I use to use the one that came with my racket, the head logo but have recently switched to a trusty old rubber band.

Why I use it? I've always used one so I guess it's habit.

I use a rubberband. It dampenes the sound. I heard in a post that you have taken some of the weight off the LMP mp. Where do you have it positioned now? I have 6g (3 on each side) at the 10 - 2. No counter weight under the handle though I did replace it with s fairway leather grip.

I have gone down to 4g at 10 and 2 each and 2g at 8 and 4 or where the LM bumps are. This takes it to just under 12.5oz. I will likely start working back up as I play more than 3 times a week this summer. I don't use a counter weight under the handle either. I figure a sweety wrist band is enough weight there already.

I use one, but it unfortunately halfs the hitting space on my PST 90's, i use the Wilson US Open Tennis ball, as it's one of the few available in the UK, i wanted one of those VibraFun ones, the pack with the Flame and the US Flag, but you can only get the smily and grumpy face here :(

i want one with a devil's face. do they make any?

04-22-2004, 01:54 PM
No, there's just something I don't like about having to use one to make a racquet comfortable to hit with. I choose racquets that hit well with just a decent synth gut in there.

Yes, the Wilson "W".

I use the Fischer Vibrastop. It's like a rubber band with a button to make sure it doesn't come off.

Yeah definitely do, I don't understand how anyone couldn't..

I used a rubber band wrapped around 2 mains in the centre bottom of the racquet

i use a rubber band
wilson dampeners=crap

i use one or two rubberbands, the vibration just feels horrible without a dampener. tried lots and lots of rackets and there are none made of graphite that don't vibrate.

Home Depot cable gromet .

Rubberband. Reason: Ball hitting rubberband has better chance of going over than hitting a big rubber thingy. Of course this is just my opinion.

Cable grommet.

Best one I ever used was the old Donnay Vibrazorb - essentially, a little, sponge-type thing that only the old dudes will remember.

Tecnifibre Vibra Clip.

Bab High Damp Original - for there is now a new smaller one with not nearly so appealing graphics. Works a dream. Always used a dampener and was a Wilson W man for a long time. Don't like pinging off the strings and since I've used them I've never had any elbow problems .... yes I know nothing has been proved officially. But that's the truth.

No way! Never use them. Love to have the feedback so I know immediately how solid (or in my case, how badly) I hit the ball. Also use leather grip to increase the feedback. Muted feel is just simply no good for me.

Hey seinfeld, no dampener? I bet you'd love the feedback on returning a 120mph serve, or 10 consecutive 70mph forehands. Sometimes you just need one 8)

Rubber band tied in a butterfly knot!

04-23-2004, 04:33 PM
No dampener. I like to feel!!!!

04-23-2004, 04:44 PM
I tried the rubber band on the two center mains and found that to be useless... was getting the same vibration and sound as I did without a dampener. I use the small rectangular Prince dampener that comes with all the new Prince racquets... stays on pretty well.

Another one here with the rubber band.

04-23-2004, 06:24 PM
I use the wilson W as many players do - its pretty nice and I wouldnt use a racquet without one no matter what kind it is - althought everytime I break a string the W flings off and bounces around on the court

Upshot whether a dampner quells vibration is up for debate ; it does one thing for sure it makes every shot feel solid . Deuce is on target the Donay sponge was the best !

04-24-2004, 12:27 PM
Hey you guys how, do i actually apply the rubber band, is it just any old knot, or is there a proper way to do it???

04-24-2004, 02:36 PM
It seems like everyone used the sponge dampeners in the early 90's. I wonder why no one makes them anymore.
