I getting my KProstaff restrung and wanted to try Roger's stringing setup. I need to know what to tell the stringer how to string my racket and with what? Thanks. Cannot wait to try it afterward. This is going to be fun!

If you want to be precise.... get Wilson's Champion's Choice gut/Lux combo. Gut in the mains. Strung around 22 kgs, 48.5 lbs. Check out this pic of Federer's BLX90 (from TTW member Fabfed) and note the position of his string savers, power pads, and tie-off holes for the crosses......

VGP,

Thanks. I saw this BX90-thread that you sighted which gave me the idea on re-stringing my KProstaff 88.

Well, Roger Federer says he strings at 52-56 pounds, depending on court and environment.

But, hey, what does he know about his own racquet?

Don't get the Champion's Choice. The gut in that set is of lower quality than the gut that comes in a full set. It's basically the equivalent of Babolat's Tonic+ line. If you want Fed's real setup, get the gut and rough separate.

Well Federer uses Wilson Natural Gut/Alu Power Rough at around 44-48lbs (after I heard 55/52lbs at the Aussie was wrong)
but if you wanna try something cheaper then i suggest u look at the thread Federer's Setup: Worth a try!

Fixed that for you.
Not sure about the tension but I know it's not 48/45lbs, maybe somewhere near.

Well...
there's pictures on the P1 website that shows Wilson gut, but Nate Fergy says it's VS team??
but VS team only comes in 17 gauge.
and that's from Nate Ferguson not Ron Yu so...
anyway since there's so much things AGAINST Federer using VS team, and there's photo evidence he uses Wilson gut, then I say Wilson gut.
oh.. and why not power pads??
did he stop using them??

VS Team has not only come in 17 gauge(1.25mm). It has come in a variety of gauges. In our office we have packages of 1.22, 1.25, 1.27, 1.30, 1.35, and 1.40 gauges of VS Team.

Originally, VS Team was the designation Babolat used for gut that was earmarked for top juniors and professional players. It would come in a more nondescript white foil packaging. It was the same stuff as the consumer product, but just packaged differently with the term "Team" lasered on the string. I'm not sure exactly why they made this distinction, but it may be due to them wanting to make sure that gut earmarked for pro players didn't ultimately get sold somehow to the general public. Since pros used to get pretty significant discount on gut, Babolat may have been worried that some of it would be sold for a profit by someone else. After a while, Babolat changed VS Team packaging to basically look exactly the same as the retail packaging except in the place of the terms "Power" or "Touch", they would use "Team." VS Power was the retail name for 1.25mm and VS Touch for 1.30.

I'll have to check, but I believe we still get 1.30mm gut from Babolat for a couple of our Gold Service clients that say "VS Team." I do know that for a while I found it interesting that Lleyton Hewitt got gut labeled "VS Touch", but Marcos Baghdatis was getting gut labeled "VS Team" even though they were exactly the same stuff.

I would not be at all surprised if they made "VS Team" gut a variety of string gauges still. Its not hard to change the lasering on the string, and the slight change in packaging.

So Ron, what is the diff? Wilson prem. is vs team, right? Same factory, same string made in that factory, same price, same look. Same feel. Does Fed string at 48/45? Does he use power pads? Does he use string alings at 4th and 6th cross down, 5 each?

"This is not true. (says the guy who strung his racquets). This year in Melbourne, he was stringing mainly at 22/20.5 kilos. He had some done half a kilo tighter, and some strung at half a kilo looser, but his main playing tension was 22/20.5.

Any chance Djokolate would like to clue us in on who is incorrectly telling people that he/she is stringing Rog's sticks?

FYI, Rog never works in lbs, only kilos."

The VS Team gut is different from VS Touch and other VS guts because of the tolerance in the factory.
VS Touch 1.30 could be anywhere between 1.28 and 1.32 for example and the laser that measures it at the factory during the finishing process would accept it.

If the factory was making VS Team 1.30 that day then the tolerances on the laser were set to 1.30 exactly and reject anything above or below.

This margin of difference is not as important to a club player because they will not feel the difference between a 1.29 gauge and a 1.31 gauge where as a player will notice (normally).

This is the difference between the two.

Take care

Interesting that Hewitt (as per your and Ron's posts) would get the "lower quality" (from a gauge consistency perspective) gut and Baghdatis the "higher quality" one...
Hmmmm maybe Hewitt didn't "care" and Baghdatis felt the difference ??

Well, I know that Babolat said that the Team gut had a tighter tolerance, but when I worked for Jay's Custom Stringing, we would check every single set of string when we received it in the office. We would take the string out of Babolat packaging, and then use a micrometer to check the gauge. Even with the Team gut, it would vary a few of millimeters. We would then repackage each set of gut, and mark the exact diameter on the new package. In this way we could make sure we would take the same diameter string to each event for a particular player. If a player used 1.30mm gut, we might take all 1.29 to one event, and then to the next event take all 1.31. It kept things very consistent for the player.

Sorry all

I'm not sure what's going on with you my friend but it's like Deja-vu again. We've already had a 'chat' about the fact that 'colinthestring' is wrong and Ron Yu is right as he actually strings Fed's frames. Remember a month ago a similar thread about Fed's strings in which you questioned Ron Yu and Ron actually chimed in.... as well as some of us to correct you. Now a month later we're back to the same thing all over again.

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?p=5391548#post5391548

That's why people are posting negative comments back to you the way they are. It's the fact that you simply are either not getting what reputable people like Ron are posting, questioning stuff that you already know is right, and then when someone like Ron or Richard Parnell post great info you seem to 'ignore' it and ask questions as if their responses didn't exist.

OK. rant over. not trying to be harsh here but you really have to think before you post more... or maybe just not post so much - without rhyme or reason over and over. not just in this thread but i've come across many of your other posts of similar 'quality'.

Players we string for at the Delray at the top of my head:

Benjamin Becker and Rajeev Ram use Touch.

Fish was using 17 gauge Wilson, Nishikori was using 16 gauge Wilson. Whether it was team or touch I have no idea.

Several other players were also using babolat and/or wilson natural gut,,,,, team or touch 16 or 17 gauge.

as for tensions, the only player I could think of that didn't change his tension once was Delpotro. The rest of the guys were up or down a lb/kg or two depending on the whether, or if they were playing a day or nigth match.

I bet if we strung everyone's racket here with every variation of gut mentioned above, nobody that posts here would be able to tell the difference. So the question then becomes..........why is everyone so interested in such exact specifics? I bet most people here couldn't hit inside the baseline with a 48/44 lb gut/poly K90.

I guess the same reason any fan has a fascination for the best in the world, it's just interesting. Truth be told, Hewitt and Bags probably couldn't tell the difference in a mm of gut. But, guys like P1 ensure that everything is identical so the pros don't have to think about their gear. (and we think more than enough around here about gear, i.e. the boards)

Hey RJYU,

Have you strung for Novak Djokovic?
If so can you please provide me with some of his most common tensions.

Cheers.

Not Ron, but I made some notes last year when they interviewed Nate at IW on tennis warehouse. He mentioned that Novak was stringing between 62 and 60 lbs with his gut/alu hybrid.
