View Full Version : String pattern for spin ?

18 X 20, 16 X 20, 16 X 19 are mostly seen string pattern nowadays. I found myself best spinning the ball with 18 X 20, and 16 X 19 is good for volley. What do you think ?

Isn't it generally accepted that the more open the string pattern is the more spin you can get out of a racquet? You have to consider the head size along with the string pattern but all things considered equal a more open string pattern will give you more spin.

From my experience. A more open string pattern will generate spin easier but spin is lesser. Anybody have the same feeling ?
It depends on the head size too. I'm using eastern grip forhand on low balls, and semi western for high balls, w/ one hand back hand.
16x18 on 95 head size seems best way to get spin. Also I also own a 16x18 on 85si frame, it does well too. The 18x20 on 93 (prestige mid) does have a big sweetspot, but it doesn't help spin at all.

string pattern makes no difference becuase the potential is in the player. As far as purely pattern I say that denser patterns allow for a much more controlled spin as well as better directional control, the more open patterns give more of a superficial spin that is easier to get, but again having a denser pattern doesn't limit spin, just makes it harder to get.I can get more spin with my PT630 than my PS 6.1 or HPS 6.1 so despite their numerous differences spin is not always a matter of pattern.
