he played a good match to win the tourney. Little tight in some spots but he showed a lot of courage in big points a lot of times. I can't say that about a lot of guys in finals lately. And he definitely wanted this more more than Kei...

Money says post that in Instruction forum without his name in the title and somebody rates him as a half decent club player!

Whoever it is, hes an upper tier 4.0 to mid 4.5.

Very nice, crisp hitting from the baseline. His serve needs major work though.

Serve is one of the things Mike & Bob Bryan's dad was working on with him prior to the match. Although, he was firing 120mph serves against Nishikori regularly.

I think one big misconception is most people think in their head that they look better out there than they really do. For example, you. This results in comments like yours when you see a pro play, you think you're pretty much like him. That's the second misconception.

Any guy in the top 200-300 would look that good (or better) in warmups. This video proves nothing.

You noticed that too? Not sure if that's intentional or for a specific purpose or what.

He doesn't hold his head for that extra split second when the ball hits his racket like Federer does.

It was a joke.

Ryan is an upper tier 6.5

I'd say a 6.75.

Saw him play Nishikori at a Challenger event a few years ago. Huge serve and forehand. His backhand was suspect. Forehand was huge, but he couldn't work it different ways like the guys in top 25 with huge forehands, it was almost an all or nothing shot. At least in that match. And his tennis intelligence, both tactical and emotional, seemed low. Nishikori changed his game to take the match, going from playing straight baseline counterpunching to hitting more off speed shots and charging the net, and Ryan never adjusted at all, just getting angry.

But he had the biggest shots we saw that whole tournament. Some real ATP level weapons but just not very consistent. Watching a serve as big as his court side, the way you would waiting for a court at the local park, was crazy. His warm up serves looked like CGI they had so much pace and action on them.

I think one big misconception is most people think in their head that they look better out there than they really do. For example, you. And me. Took some iPhone video of myself hitting the other day, was amazed by how awkward and choppy I looked. It was just lazy hitting back and forth, but still. It wasn't a complete surprise, I saw video of myself from my college days, and thought I looked terrible, but it was still a bit crazy to be reminded of it.

Ryan has some issues with adapting his game and keeping his temper under control but he's playing some of the best tennis of his life right now.
He's ousted Sam Querrey twice this year (Delray and Houston).

He's won the Houston Clay Court championship. I pretty confident he will
be a top five American player by the end of the year.

Before everyone starts bashing the guy there is only 1 #1 spot 1 #2 spot
and Ryan may never reach the top 20 but he may soon be on most players radar.
