Sampras?
I'll look for some vids but he regulary got himself out of big holes.. Nadal is a good fighter but I dont think anyone was better at it than Sampras.

That first video Berdych failed to realize that Nadal's pattern is exactly what's shown there. he tends to save all but the final break point with can-openers, and then tries to hit to the forehand of the righty on the final breakpoint he faces (unless it's just a single breakpoint, which he's 50-50 about where he'll serve)

watch more of his video's, youll see. Same with Fed, he will hit mainly wide serves breakpoint down.. but if one breakpoint down he tends to go Tee.

Sampras with his serve and Nadal with his baseline game fend off breakpoints so well.

Federer too, only now if he has a good serving day.

Well the thread is about me thinking that he is though, it's subjective of course.
@ Kish, I agree.

The last one in the OP is more like how to choke a match away

Yup, Ive seen Sampras and Agassi play in person. Andre had such a sick return but Pete's serve just had to be all that much better.

Best ever Sampras
then Rafa
then Fed

I think I'm giving Rafa the edge simply because Ive see him broken less in the last 3 years and watched the Wimbledon 2008 final. It's hardly scientific ;)

Nice work there as well Bolo :)

Man, in the Aussie Open 09 video I watched, I just ended up watching the whole part, and part 17 as well, there's some SICK stuff in those 2 videos, just sick. Rafa was in BEAST mode.

Sorry misunderstood the thread topic. Saving BP's? I'd say Sampras, but Nadal is actually a really good choice as well. I'm sure Laver had great stats on this as well. Borg was great at saving BP's as well, but so were several other greats. It's a big requirement to be at the very top of the men's game and has been that way for a long time.

Boom Boom for sure. He'd go down 0-40, yell at himself a bunch, then serve up 4 aces and 1 unreturnable

Nadal saves 5 match points (4 were breakpoints) and crushes Nalbandian's soul along the way.

Those first 4 sets were great, some amazing points. The neat thing about nadal when I looked at this last is that he wins break points at a higher rate than a typical 1st serve point. Federer is about even. Tobasco sauce is below by about a couple of % points IIRC.

Federer's biggest moves I always felt(aside frm the FH) was his ability to conjure up back-to-back aces/unreturnables @15-40.

I dont see it as often these days(what happened to his serve?) but it boy you could almost tell when it was going to happen.

Has to be Sampras.

Sampras - no doubt in my mind about that.

That serve is probably the greatest weapon ever seen in tennis.

The amount of times I have seen him with his clutch serving at the right moment is just staggering. Everyone else can fight for the others spots. :)

Yes, his clutch serving is unmatched. Federer's is great too, but not at the same level.

has to be nadal.
he gets more aggressive whenever he is down.
Sampas clutch serving was the best, but Nadal's BP play is on a different plane, and here's why:

a server can end the point by taking the opponent out of the equation, which is relatively much easier than winning the point after letting the opponent into the point.

thanks for posting that vid. that whole tournament was awesome for Fed. After losing to Gonzo for the first time in a RR match at the master's cup, Fed hit another gear and was serving at around 80% first serves for the rest of the tournament.

Roddick should be out of the running because of that 2009 wimby final. He should have closed out things when he had the chance. But yes, Roddick is very good at saving BP's.

can't agree with this logic, in the end what matters is whether you save the BPs or not , not how much you had to work for it to save it ...

sampras/nadal are very close IMO ...
