View Full Version : Racquet similar to HEAD YOUTEK Radical MP with more easy oomph and spin...?

I am currently playing with the YOUTEK Radical MP.

There are times when I love hitting with this stick and other times it's just awful.

I know technique is to blame here, and I have tried everything from strings, tension, lead tape, etc.

Getting used to the grip has also been difficult.

I am aware that there are quite a few sticks out there that compete with the Radical out there, with the most popular ones being the Pure Storm GT and Wilson Blade series.

I feel like I need more pop, forgiveness, easier access to spin and I was wondering if the Pure Storm GT or any other racquet offers this.

I have also been looking at the HEAD YOUTEK IG Extreme MP, HEAD YOUTEK IG Speed 300, Wilson KBlade, BLX Pro Open and the Yonex VCore 98d.

Thanks.

Have you tried the OS version? or something in the Instinct series?

Recommending the Youtek Instinct here.
It's a Radical on steroids. Less weight for easy use, more power, more spin because of higher racquet speed.

Instinct is a great idea like flashfire said. I found there to be loads of pop with it adn control was good as well

I thought the PSGT had a ton more pop. Idk about the control just because I didn't really play that much, but pop was much more noticeable along with spin. Spin is more technique IMO, but I did get more spin with GT. I would give it a try but it was lacking that feel that I like in the radicals. You can just drop your tension as well, why pay for a new racquet I would try a lower tension before you spend a lot for a new set.

Agree. The YT Instict is like a more powerful and easier to use Radical. You can add some leadtape if it's too light.

You can also try the IG Speed 300. It also has the more square grip shape

I would recommend the TT Warrior by Prince. The weight is a little more, but the spin, power, and comfort are definitely better than the YT Radical.

Here is the thing: Head Radical MP is just an awful racket spin wise, like most head rackets.
You should look at the EZONE100 and 100 Lite with 16x18 pattern, the VCore 100S, RDiS 200 lite, Volkl Organix 8, or Organix 10 295, these are a lot better with spin access, power and quality.
If you like cheaper rackets go for the Babolat ones.

I second/third the Instinct. I'm playing with it leaded up at 3&9 and ad the handle for a total weight of 11.8oz. I like the Radical as well but I wanted something with a bit more pop. My only complaint about the YT Instinct is the closed string pattern but it's one of the more "open" closed patterns out there because of the spacing of the mains and crosses. I might have found my holy grail of Instincts - I'm trying out the IG Instinct tonight and it's pretty much an Instinct but with more pop and a true open (16x19) pattern.

One of my friends recently switched from the Radical MP to the EXO3 Tour (18x20), and he seems to love it. At least on my end, he's getting a little more pop and a lot more spin.

I've played with or demo'd a number of the Prince sticks with the holes/ports, including both EXO3 Tour versions. I do feel that the holes make the racquet much more forgiving and enlarge the sweetspot if that's something you're looking for. That said, I absolutely hate the feel of these sticks, and I was a user of many of them at one point or another (including the original O3 Tour, Ozone Tour, EXO3 Rebel, and EXO3 Graphite 100) before deciding to move on.

Every tried the Radical Pro? You might not like the swingweight, but more power and spin...

Op: don't bother with head racquets if you don't like the gripshape. There are plenty of other great racquets on the market.

It sounds like you haven't discovered the wonders of babolat racquets yet. Try out the pure drive and aero pro drive. They are arguably the best racquets for topspin. The Blx pro open is essentially a copy of the old pure drive team. It doesn't have cortex which is why it is appealing to some players.

IMO:

BB Lonon,
Speed 300,
Blade 98,
Pure Storm,
Organix 10 295

or more stiff like:
EZONE100
Organix 8

Dunlop 300s will help you on the spin, but not so much on the pop. They are pretty flexible too. Lower tensions would fix that.

When did the IG Instinct come out??? I will be VERY interested in that as well. I love the YT Instinct and also leaded it up at 3/9. It's a great and highly underrated "player's tweener". But a 16x19 IG Instinct would be awesome! The IG Speeds are better than the previous and I assume it will be no different for the Instinct line. Hope they make it a little heavier as well. Do u have the specs on it and how are u getting one now?

Nope, but I would pick up the new IG Instinct sight unseen when it comes out! :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I had previously played with a HEAD Ti. Fire and then moved to the Babolat AeroPro Drive GT.

I was wondering if the Wilson KBlade or BLX Blade would work, but was really worried about the latter's swingweight.

How about the Pure Storm GT?

After last night's hit with the new IG Instinct, I'm sold! It's unlike any Head frame I've ever hit with. Feels pretty flexible but I think it's due to the grommets. If anything, the racquet plays a bit like the Yonex RDS 003 from a few years back. It's a 16x19 string pattern with an oval head shape and a non-traditional Head grip as well. The new IG Instinct shares the name with the old frame but nothing else. It has LOTS of pop, comfort, and a nice maneuverable weight. I've been looking for a frame that plays like the Dunlop 500 Tour but with Yonex softness/flex and this might be the one.

I don't care about Sharapova's pictures! I want first hand pictures from him!!! xDD
I can't believe it's really 16x19 though.

It's 16x19 for sure.

Unstrung weight: 10.6
String patter: 16x19
Swing Style: L3

The grommets are unliked anything I've seen before and it kind of reminds me of the Babolat Woofer technology. I can't post any pictures in advance of Tennis Warehouse or Head due to contractual agreements. I'm in the Silicon Valley area and most dealers nationwide should be getting their seed racquets this week if they don't already have it.

I played some doubles with it last night and I was very impressed by the spin generated by the racquet as well as the stability and vibration dampening.

Ok, I'm starting to sound like a commercial but I really LOVE this frame.

A KBlade or BLX Blade is likely to give you more pop than the Radical. The main reason for that is that they are stiffer. The will not necessarily give you more spin however. I increased the wieght of my Radical to get more pop.
If you want to change racquets, I second the choice of the London. Great racquet, easy acess to spin, more pop than Radical (especially a Radical in stock form)

Ohhh!!
No worries then. I didn't know you were a rep.
But it's really an open string pattern eh?? Does it feel more livelier because of the 16x19 bed?

Not a rep, we're working with Head for a website we're launching so we get to see and play with all the cool gear before release. This racket is very lively and is a totally different racquet from the old Instinct. More than a couple of people already have commented that this racquet plays very similar to the Dunlop 500 Tour but with more comfort. I restrung mine with Alu Rough @ 57lbs and I'm loving it so far. I hope it's not the honeymoon period and I'm cursing it next week! I've made the switch already so I'm kind of stuck with it till the next new frame! :)
