I have played for about 4 years and I was looking to enter a tournament or two this summer just to see how I am compared to people that aren't my local friends. So I signed up for the USTA junior membership. In the process of finding the tournament on the USTA website I searched "Boys' singles 16" because I am 16 years old (17 in july). I found a tournament fairly close to me that I would like to enter, but when I went to sign up for the tournament online the only event it available was what was labeled "Boys' singles 18". Does that mean I can still sign up and play? Will I be at a disadvantage being it my first tournament playing against 18 yr olds?

You can absolutely sign up for that. Not necessarily at a disadvantage, depending on the level of the tourny. (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 UPS, etc) What level is it? Only then can you determine if you're at an advantage or a disadvantage.

there is no level listed next to Boys' singles 18. All that it says at the top is Westend Junior Open (DR-L8 )

Post a link to the usta page. You can delete it later, I'm curious - normall they have a level listed.

Yeah, that's weird. I'd say it's probably a level 1 or level 2. If it's a level 1, you might be at a slight disadvantage because people will come from furhter away to play because if they win, their nat'l ranking will do good things. If it's a level two, I'm sure you'll be pretty evenly matched.

It might say level 8. I am citing this from the title- Westend Junior Open (DR-L8) See the last two digits. Also, there is a 16 year old group as well [for fun, i went through the registering process]. Have fun, also, if you have questions, just call and ask... they could care less, that is why there is a phone number,

As far as my knowledge goes here in the Eastern District, there is no level 8.

I'm in Arkansas, I have played one New England tourney in C.T., Level 6 was a above average tourney. Call and ask!

Maybe they're using SSV levels. Even so, arky, the Nothern district is kind of scrwey.
