What about the recent Federer/Djokovic match?
That was a higher level.

I'd say Sampras v. Agassi 1999 Wimbledon Final.

What about the recent Federer/Djokovic match?

That was very high level from Fed but imo these matches that I posted are just insane, Federer took the ball so incredibly early and directed it with such pace angel and power

I'd say Sampras v. Agassi 1999 Wimbledon Final.

That final from Pete is definetely right up there, although Pete in that match only needed his 1st serve and his volley

I say that because both players were playing at such a high standard.

Watch the match on youtube or download it from somewhere. Pete was hitting backhand winners against Agassi from the back court.

I saw it on TV and remember it very well, im sure he did, and it was an amazing match but imo Feds level was higher

And this would be a prime example of the difference between Federer and all the other players. The tennis he played here is the reason he earned the G.O.A.T. title. It's like hurricane Roger blew into town, and blew all the other players off the court.

please, Sampras doesn't even belong in the same category.

That match that Soderling played against Fed at the French Open two years ago was up there with the best tennis I've ever seen.
If he took that form into every match he'd be unstoppable.
Unfortunately, it was a one off.

I agree, thats why i think that 2004-2007 Fed would have toyed with 2011 Djokovic, 2011 Federer still has game left though to beat the hottest kid in town

Pace angel's huh...what are those?

Anyway, you'd have to pick a better opponent for it to be the "highest level" of tennis. Federer vs. Nadal matches are of a way higher overall level, because the guy on the other side of the net is far far better than both Hewitt and Roddick. Roddick especially makes a LOT of guys look extremely good.

So nah, not really the highest level of tennis ever. Just a good exhibition against guys that can't push Federer.

I agree, that was Soderlings best match in his life. Impossible to top that for him imo.

Well i dont agree, Feds matches against Nadal always limits him and he has to play backhand 80% of the match, so... No.

In my opinion the highest level of tennis was Nadal vs verdasco at the Aussie open

You can't say that TMOP.
For instance, Soderlings match against Federer is so impressive because of who he was playing.
He outplayed the top player in the world Federer who was also playing extremely well in that match.
Which means that Soderling's level had to be on another planet.

Tsonga-Nadal Australian Open Semi in 2008. (I really don't think it was the highest level but Tsonga was impressive.)

OK, Soderling should be in that discussion to, no doubt.
But i still think the best Fed from 2004-2007 would have beat Soderling in that QF of FO 2010

Tsonga-Nadal Australian Open Semi in 2008. (I really don't think it was the highest level but Tsonga was impressive.)

Tsonga was sensational in that match and made Nadal look like a junior way out of his depth. Tsonga did the same to Djokovic in the first set of the final as well, but his level then dropped down to human levels.

Here's the impressive highlights of that Nadal vs. Tsonga semi final at the 2008 Australian Open:

Hewitt fought like heck to take that second set to a tiebreak after being a break down for most of the set. Amazing willpower against Federer's godlike game that day.

He's playing a guy that is a 2 slam winner(one over Sampras in USO final),was #1 for 2 years in a row and that reached this(2004) USO final without losing a set so yes it is extremely impressive to blow away such an opponent.

BTW Nadal is 3-3 on HC against Roddick so I guess he doesn't make anyone look extremely good, and don't give me he didn't beat prime Nadal BS either because his last win over Nadal was in 2010-most successful year in Nadal's career and one of the worst years of Roddick's career since 2003.

Fed is BEAST! I just think he's TOO calm and layed back during matches, which is why he's loosing matches against Nadal or Djoker. You saw the first set during the finals, Fed hammered his forehand and backhand and was being agressive but then lost focus and confidence to hit those shots later on.

2004 Fed needs to give 2011 Fed some advice!

That Agassi-Kafelnikov match was always one of my favorite coast-to-coast baseline power matches of all time. Insane power, angle, and precision.

Yes, it was an awesome performance by Fed. I remember watching that match.

Nonetheless, Federer just knows exactly how to handle Hewitt, it was a terrible match up once Federer startet dominating. The Australian simply has no weapon to really take Fed out of the comfort zone, this just made Federer look even greater than he already was. I mean, he has a 15 match winning streak against that guy, most of those matches were in straight sets.
Therefore, I don't think this is the highest level ever seen.

Interestingly, their overall H2H is 17-8, just like Nadal - Federer

Does steamrolling someone really quality as "high level"? It's easy to look like a God when your opponent is clueless. Quality wise, it only counts for one side even though it takes two people to play a match.

I'd favor the 2008 Wimbledon final. Both players were exceptional that day, both playing at an incredibly high level where only a few points determined the match.

Edberg looked like he was crushing Courier with almost no effort in that match. It looked so incredibly easy. Tennis looks so simple when you see a player reach a "zone" like that.
