How would you rank Nadal level of play he displayed when he won RG following the years?

Mine:

1) RG2008: His absolute best, winning the tournament without losing a set and crushing players like Verdasco, Almagro and even Federer in the final. He also easily beat Djokovic in straight set. He was on fire during this tournament.

2) RG2007: Another display of amazing tennis by Nadal. He only lost a set in the final to Federer when both were at their best. He also easily defeated Djokovic in the SF. He also crushed Moya in QF and easily beat Del Potro in the 1R and beat Hewitt in straight set.

3) RG2005: His first GS victory and first RG. At age 19 (at the end of the tournament), Nadal played an amazing tournament. Losing 3 sets and beating the like of Grosjean, Federer, Gasquet and Ferrer. and finally Puerta playing the tournament of his life like if he was possessed by Muster.

4)RG2006: He won the tournament and lost 3 sets too but overall he was not as good as in 2005. PHM and Hewitt gave him tough matchs and he defeated a Federer who was bleeding errors from his backhand 7-6 in the fourth.

5) RG 2010: Nadal did not lost a set during this tournament but he had an easy draw and played very average until the final where he raised his game and easily defeated Soderling for vengeance. But overall his level of play was not good eventhough it has to be noted that he never needed to raise his game.

6) RG2011: His worst level at RG (except 2009 of course) so far for me. The start was just a disaster. Losing two sets to an all serve Isner on clay. PLaying very badly against Andujar and putting an horrible display against Ljubicic, one of his worst match of his career at this tournament. For the last 3 matchs he raised his level and found back his tennis.
Against Soderling, Murray and Federer he put great performance that equal his level of 2005 and 2006 but who are still inferior to his 2008 and 2007 level.

His last two RG are the two last of my list. I hope he will turn that in 2012.

Isner did not play anything special. Nadal put an horrible performance like he did against Lorenzi in Roma. Nadal should have crushed Isner if he played just at a little of his best level.

I think what matters most is the level in the latter stages when he plays the better players. As Freddy said after the FO final "He plays better against the better ones, and that's what he showed today"

Nadal turnd it on in 2011 from the 1/4 finals match onwards.

Not really. The way the clay was playing and with the new balls, he wouldn't. I didn't think this was news to anybody, but Isner is one of the toughest guys to break. His game not be flashy, but it's very effective. If he doesn't get broken, all he needs is to get lucky/play a really nice game and break Nadal once to win in a set, or win in a tiebreak. That's exactly what he did.

I dont disagree with Federer's wish to win more finals against Nadal but i dont think Federer would have lavished to Play any Nadal. No mature versions of Federer ever want to play Nadal.period.

Ya I know he didn't win that year....but I am counting his MS performances. They were reall good dog fights and he was defintly playing real will with the injuries than he was playing in 2010( easiest clay season ever) and 2011( depressed nadal)!

I agree. Plus IMO any federer from 2005-2007 would have killed Nadal 2009-2011.

pretty good. I will switch 2005 and 2011, but he brought himself up quite a bit towards the end of the 2011 tournament by upping the ante on defense. Nadal just has a lot more firepower and ways of winning points on all surfaces after 2006, but his defense and CC capital was on another level in 2005.

Yeah, this is the order for me as well. 2008 is the best by far, 2007 is great too, in 2005 he's a rookie and an incredible one. He was not that great in 2006/2010, pretty bad in 2011 and 2009 (the difference being that in 2011, a healthy Nadal survived the first week and got the opportunity to improve, while in 2009, a physically limited Nadal lost to an on-fire Soderling and we'll never know what he would have done if he had gone through).

2007 the best in my opinion.
