View Full Version : INCREASE Grip from 4 1/4 to 4 5/8??

Do you guys think it's worth it?

I am eyeing a great deal on a new Prestige , but the grip size is 2 sizes too small. On my other prestiges I've got a heat shrink in the 4 1/2 (increasing it to 4 5/8), and my other prestige is a proper 4 5/8.

Just wondering if it's worth it as all my Prestiges would have different balances. I can notice VERY slightly the diff between the natural 4 5/8 and the heat shrinked 4 1/2 now 4 5/8.

Anybody out there done 2 grip size change?

yes you're right it is.

Can it be done without completely changeing the balance of the racquet?

are you going to heat shrink itor something else?

i was thinking of doing that, but you'd have to use 3 heat sleeves. Don't think it's worth it.

Who uses a 4 1/4 grip? that's so small. I can understand if it was more of a "female" racquet, but i haven't seen too many women playing with a prestige.

the rule of thumb is to increase by two grip sizes max

When you build up grips with heat shrink, it deadens the feel of the racket. I made a mistake and order 2 rackets with small grips, built them up, but could never feel the ball on them. In addition, it becomes to head light and adds weight.
I would sell them and buy the right size frames.

Power Game is right - prestige grips are pallets so you can change grips very easy once you track down the grip pallets. Put a wanted ad in the classifieds, call other online tennis stores, search e b a y. At worst you will find 4 1/2 pallets and then you can build up one gripsize if you really want to.

heatshrinking or building up 2-3 grip sizes will make the racquet play totally different and you won't feel the bevels on the grip.
