If you want a 6 pt head heavy racquet to be 6 pts head light you would add 12 grams of lead tape to the handle, right?

Not necessarily 12 grams... you're going to need a lot though to change the balance like that; I'm not sure how much but you can calculate it using some formula which I don't have at hand right now. It depends on your racquet length, too.

Adding 12 oz. sounds excessive to me.

There is a great web site concerning customizing a tennis racquet. I can't remember the URL but I'm sure you could find it easily with a Google.

.

yeah 12 oz would be excessive since that is the of a heavy racquet but he said 12 grams :)

Actually 12 grams is not that much weight to add. Many people add 10-20 grams of weight to their racquet. You won't know the balance with your particular racquet unless you measure it.

TW has a good customization tips http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/Customizing/customize.html

Checkout www.racquetresearch.com . Or if you post the length and weight of your frame I can figure it out for you.

I had to make an assumption about the swingwieght of this racquet(assumed 324). I came up with adding 1.9 ozs of weight 4" from the butt cap(this minimizes changes to the swingweight). You can add 1.3 oz. just inside the butt cap with an increase in swingweight of +4. If you know the swingweight I can get even closer for you.

swingweight is actually added the closer you get to the buttcap? how?

swingweight is actually added the closer you get to the buttcap? how?

The base point for determining added swingweight is the axis of rotation or AOR, which is 10CM or 4" from the butt cap. This is the point in your hand that the racquet rotates around when it's swung on a ground stroke. The additional swingweight added to a racquet is calculated with the formula;

s=m*d^2/1000

where m is the weight added in grams, and d is the distance in CMs from the AOR where the weight is added. So, if you add weight before or after the AOR the swingweight will increase. The further from the AOR it's added the more the swingweight will increase. If it's added on the butt side it won't increase as much. Of course, there are other AORs( elbow, shoulder), so no matter where the weight is added the swingweight is going to increase at those points. Hope that makes sense.

Wow, Gaines, thanks for that tip. I guess now that I think about it, it makes sense that putting weight there would mean a minimal increase in swingweight, but I guess I never thought it through since I can't really remove swingweight by adding weight to the handle...

is 1.9 oz 53 grams? and will add ing the 1.9 oz make it head light? ill just put the weight in the butcap i probibly wont notice the increased swingweight since prior to getting this racquet my other weighted 13 oz.

That sounds about right(there are 28g/oz). What model of racquet is it? BTW, you only need 1.3 oz if you're going to put it just inside the butt cap. This will make it 6 pts HL just like you wanted it.
