I've read conflicting feedback on SPPP. Is it harsh in a full bed and plush in a hybrid, or is it a matter of tension?

It feels pretty soft for a poly. That being said, it's a stiff string with a soft feel.

Plush Poly?
That's an oxymoron! :)
SPPP is one of the best all around polys out there.
Relatively arm friendly, good tension maintenance. Good price.
Falls a bit short in the 'crisp' Dept.
It's my go-to string for weaning a string-breaker off Syngut at high tension.
Works well with almost any syngut cross.

how does signum pro hyperion compare to sppp? would be great if some1 who used both could share his/her thoughts
especially as a cross in a hybrid with gut
thx :)

I found it quite harsh in a hybrid as the main, crossed with OG sheep. 53/55. Much more harsh than a full bed of Pro Hurricane Tour at 52. Just my opinion. The racquet I was using at the time was a fairly stiff Head YT Extreme, if that might have something to do with it.

Thank you for the replies everyone.

Would you consider Black Magic to be similar to SPPP in a full bed?

Done both. SPPP is superior to Hyperion by far. To me, Hyp is just that: hype.

Not even slightly. BM is incredibly soft to the point of being mushy, while SPPP is right in the middle between soft and firm.

oh rly? hyperion sucks so much in ur opinion :o? is it just ur opinion and u think some ppl could like it or do u think its just a bad string?

i was wondering to try it as crossstring. it actually didnt sound too bad, 1.24mm gauge round smooth poly with decent tension stability

SPPP is stiff as a full bed. It's nothing like the softer co-polys that you can get nowadays.

I agree with this. As weird as the combination sounds, that's about right IMO.

I might add pretty low powered as well.

I tried Hyperion in full and in a hybrid, and still to this day, it's the boardiest feeling string I've playtested at proper tension. I put proper tension, because IIRC, I played it at 52lbs, not the 60+ I was using and thinking polys play like wood. I heard it was super soft, and it just isn't (at least not in my experience). The people who say that it and Black Magic are the same honestly have not tried both and just believe stuff they read on the internet, regardless of whether my opinion is "correct" or not.

I came from SPPP to Hyperion.

Nothing wrong with SPPP, very good string. My eye wandered as Hyperion looks super sexy in black so I thought I would give it a try, very pleased with it. Very plush feel and very arm friendly. Tension maintenance is very good and plays really well at lower tensions (string my EX03 tours at 42-46lbs depending on conditions).

Not tried Black Magic, but did try Genesis Twisted Razor which I think is meant to be the same as BM but shaped and twisted (I could be wrong here, please feel free to correct me), the Twisted Razor went off so fast I couldn't believe it. Started out pretty good then fell off a cliff within a few hours.

But anyway - OP, SPPP is good and yes it could be harsh if strung too tight :)

Thanks for the reminder. I am looking for something more crisp.

Played this again recently for 1st time in a while. Initial thoughts are it is indeed a bit stiff and yet also soft/plush. Nice power level - it's there, but it isn't overly on tap. Didn't think the spin was massive TBH. Curious to see what happens after more hours are logged. I like the orange colour too BTW!
