View Full Version : How much weight does overwrap and strings add to a racket?

I weighed my racket and it is 12.7 with lux/gut strings and a wilson overwrap. How much do you think it would be without strings and overwrap? I do not want to cut the strings out to find out.
~15 grams for strings (0.5 ounces)
~6 grams for overgrip (0.2 ounces)

strings usually weigh about .6 oz or 17 grams. Over-grip is 5-6 grams or about to .2 oz. Your racket probably weighs 11.9 oz unstrung and without over-grip. Dampeners weight 1.5 g to 4 g depending on the type - Sampras O dampeners are 1.5 and most solid round ones are around 3 grams. A big worm type would be a little more.

Strings tend to run from 15-18 grams depending on gauge and composition in my experience
