this could be serious:

that should be a very small tear to allow him to recover within a month, as he mentioned

I hope he's better by the Open.

Not looking good for the Russians with Davydenko also on the sidelines. I woud like to see Tursunov given the opportunity to fill in. Does anyone know if he has ever been selected for Davis cup???

Tursunov is in the process of abandoning his Russian citizenship and becoming an American citizen. He's never played for Russia, and given the recent news about him I don't think he'd want to.

Davydenko looks like he'll be back playing by Davis Cup though.

No, I don't think it is that serious and I'm hoping it won't be. I knew that it was strongly questionable as to whether Safin would play Davis Cup, but he said he expects to be fully recuperated in time for the USO.

Safin and Grojean is not playing in the Davis cup quarters. Gasquet will replace Grojean for singles.

No worries for Russia. Safin has been replaced by Teimuraz GABASHVILI.

hmmmm... details?

Dunno the details - I heard it through my grandfather who read it in the Russian press... this could be just hearsay.

...no, it's not hearsay - I did a google search for "dmitry tursunov citizenship" and it gave me a bunch of sources.

He talks about the status of it himself at the end of this interview at Wimbledon http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/interviews/2005-06-25/200506251119717234937.html

Though this doesn't really say whether he wasnts to renounce his Russian status... My grandfather said he did, from the source he had, but I can't confirm it. It's possible he just wants it for convenience, I suppose.

http://men.wtnworld.com/showthread.php?t=9948 <-- this is somebody copy-pasting an article to another forum, this makes it pretty clear that Tursunov has almost no ties to Russia left, and isn't really liked that well in Russia because of it.

Great research, Max G. :) I do remember reading that interview with Tursunov at Wimbledon, and I've been wondering why he was having problems traveling on a Russian passport since apparently, Marat doesn't have that problem.
