If Federer reaches the semifinals, he will move past Lendl into second place for the most career Grand Slam semifinals with 29. He will also tie Lendl with the most years of reaching at least three grand slam semifinals in one year with 7 years.

If Federer reaches the finals, he will join Sampras as the only male players to have reached at least 7 finals at two different grand slams.

If Federer wins the championship, he will have the record for most consecutive years of winning at least one grand slam with 8 years.

If Nadal wins the championship, he will join Emerson, Laver, and Lacoste as the only male players to have won the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open each at least twice.

If Nadal wins the championship, he will join Borg, Sampras, and Federer as the only players in the open era to have won at least 2 grand slams in one year in 3 different years.

Also, if Nadal loses before the quarters(?), Federer moves ahead of him.

You mean in ranking? Probably not

If Nadal loses in the quarters and Federer makes it to the final he will move ahead of Nadal in the rankings.

^I think it's if Nadal loses before the quarters and Fed wins the tournament, Fed becomes #2. Can anybody confirm?

Federer doesn't have to win the tournament if Nadal loses in the semis just making the final would be enough.

1725 points separating them, Nadal is defending 2000 and Federer 720

Possible point totals:
Nadal Round 16 - 7520
Nadal Quarters- 7990
Nadal Semis- 8150
Nadal finals -8630
Nadal wins -9430

Federer semis- 7705
Federer finals- 8185
Federer wins- 8985

If Nadal loses in the semis and Federer just makes the final, it would be enough to pass him by 35pts.

^^ I don't think that's right.

According to thishttp://live-tennis.eu/
Djokovic wins: 14720
Nadal wins: 11470
Fed wins: 9660

Here are my calculations:

>ATP ranking points now:
Nadal 11,420
Fed 8,380

=3,040 ranking points differential

>Subtract 2010 results

Nadal 11,420-2,000 (W) = 9,420
Fed 8,380-720 (SF) = 7,660

=1,760 ranking points differential

Possible point totals:
Nadal
R16 9600
Q 9780
SF 10140
F 10620
W 11420

Fed
F 8860
W 9660

Conclusion: Nadal loses before QF and Fed wins--->Fed becomes #2

Next week is beffore the tournament ends. eg if Rafa defends wouldn't he go back to the same amount of points he had before US pts dropped off.

- it would be 9 years in a row of winning slam, not 8.

Another achievment:
-first player to win two different slams 6 times.

(LOL,, Nadal even with a torn stomach in 2009 made the SF )

Nah...Nadal only had a torn somach after a loss. It is common that Nadal injures himself after losses.

Another Fed achievement:

If Federer beats Sela in his next match he will move past Andre Agassi’s total of 224 Grand Slam victories in the Open Era, and become second only to Jimmy Connors' leading mark of 233.

Also, if Nadal loses before the quarters(?), Federer moves ahead of him.

Highly unlikely and it won't matter. Federer is still 3,400 points (approx.) behind Nadal in Race points. He'll be lucky to end 2011 in the top 3 :)

The year-end ranking is what matters not the week to week rankings.

How many GS victories does Nadal currently have?

Just looked it up - 137 wins in 29 GS appearances (average of 4.72 wins at each GS)

The 2011 USO is Nadal's 30th GS tournament

Interesting. 137 is a long way behind Federer. At 20 victories over the next three years, Nadal can get to about 200 by the end of his career. Of course he can get more than 20 too for the next 2-3 years. He seems to be 'declining' at the moment but I think every season he's had a moment of this sort and bounced back stronger.

That is given. He will cross Jimmy Connors record by next year AO?FO which is 231 BTW.

Fed should be first player to have 250 plus GS match wins.

Note: Amazing that Connors has 98 US Open wins and 84 wimbledon wins (consisting the bulk of his matches). These are also records

Wow, almost 100 wins at one tournament. Hard to see that ever being broken...
Was surprised that Fed was so close to Connors' total wins already but then again he only played the AO twice.

This would be huge. Borg and Sampras won slams for 8 consecutive years as well. The problem seems to be when they are all looking for a ninth year in a row winning slams..

If Federer wins the US Open, he will become the first man to win 6 US Open titles in the open era. He currently shares the record of 5 titles with Connors and Sampras.

Also if Federer-Djokovic play each other in the semi-finals, they will become the first duo to face each other 5 years in a row at the same slam. They currently share the record of 4 years in a row with Courier-Agassi at the French Open from 1989-1992, and Nadal-Federer at the French Open from 2005-2008.
